Week of December 3, 2024
Starting the month off is the release of Luna Snow! This review is a bit late due to the holidays, so Luna Snow has already released. So far, she is a mediocre ramp card, but time will tell if she hasn’t found the right cook. Wiccan wasn’t a hit day 1 either, but there are several Wiccan decks that see play now.
Her supporting cards are X-23 and Lady Deathstrike. These cards are a definite high and low point. X-23 is a fantastic destroy tool that is soon dropping to Series 4. Lady Deathstrike is a very niche destroy card that hardly sees play across the meta. It’s safe to say this week is a pretty rough start to the season.

Week 2 of the season brings a very interesting new ability Peni Parker‘s simplified text is “add a [3/3] Hulkbuster to your hand that lets the target card move”. I don’t really see many people using Peni Parker for ramp, as it is a 2 turn, 5 Energy investment for 1 Energy next turn. Just use Hope Summers for a real ramp card. Peni Parker will probably see play exclusively in move decks. She gives any move card that merges the ability to move once. Outside of that, this card feels like a dud.
Hoping to boost this week’s value is the return of Gladiator and Sasquatch! Gladiator has proven to be a great card for a number of decks, especially Mill. Sasquatch is a much more niche card, seeing very little play. The ability isn’t inherently bad, but no deck wants to play several cards early game to lower the Cost. Sasquatch is also one of the cards involved in the upcoming Series Drops, there isn’t much need to spend keys. With the best card of this set also being in Series 4, this week feels like a second dud week in a row unfortunately.

Note: Daken will be replacing
With 2 rough weeks, maybe the 3rd week will be better! Doctor Doom 2099 looks like a new tool for Electro style decks, where you want to play 1 card at a time anyways. The idea of a 4-Cost that can give a 20 Power spread sounds great, but I have reservations. This would have been a very hyped card if Sandman were still a viable tool, but the meta has evolved way past one card turns. If you aren’t cheating out Energy or pulling off combos, you are likely getting outpowered. He does have synergy with Doctor Doom and Wong, but that’s a very specific combo. This doesn’t even begin to talk about drawing the card after turn 4, popular card Red Guardian’s tech, or that the Doom Bots could all stack up in a location that isn’t needed. I love this card’s design, but I’m not optimistic about its performance.
The supporting cast this week are a pair of low tier Discard cards, Daken and Miek. Daken can be a lot of fun, but he requires too many steps to be consistently good. Miek can be a powerhouse if you draw him early. Draw him too late and he’s a [1/0] that doesn’t grow continuously like Morbius. Both of these cards are already Series 4 and are prime candidates for the next Series Drops. I hate to say it, but this looks like yet another dud week.
Week of December 24, 2024
Round 4, can we get an exciting lineup? This week’s headline is Bruce Banner! A 2-Cost that could provide 12 Power? That’s amazing! But only 25% of the time, if you have extra energy. The concept sounds fun, but let’s be real. This card Will never see competitive play. If I pitched a card that is a 2/1 that says, “you have a 75% chance this card does nothing”, would you play that card even without needing to skip energy? Probably not. Red Guardian is super popular right now and will continue to be with all of these new cards that are prime targets for him. This is just a fun meme card that streamers will love to generate content with.
The support lineup this week is actually pretty solid (finally). Ravonna Renslayer is a very strong card that sees play in a multitude of decks in the meta. High Evolutionary isn’t very meta right now, but he is a permanent Series 5 card that unlocks an entirely new usage for a bunch of cards. That in itself makes the card worth owning. As strange as it is to say this, the new card is actually the worse part of this cache. I wouldn’t call this week a 4th dud, but I wouldn’t call it a winner either.
Week of December 31, 2024
This is one of those seasons that get a bonus week since it barely passes for December. As the final card of the season, we get a very interesting ability. A [3/3] that gains +2 value for each opposing card played seems like a great value. The tricky part is forcing your opponent to play onto it. You can use Nebula to force your opponent into a lose-lose situation, which seems like the strongest usage for the card. The movement of the card could be a great way to access tricky locations, or swap last second to an empty location to profit off your opponent’s last turn hand-dump. Of all of the new abilities this season, this is the card I’m most excited for.
Closing out the season is 2 polar opposite cards, Selene and Blob. Selene is a very lackluster card. After her change to a 1/2, her play rate plummeted. This would be a prime time to return her to [1/-1] with the Clog archetype being virtually removed from the game. Blob is basically a Arishem exclusive card, with the occasional usage in some Thanos lists. The card launches too strong, so now he is simply a tool for Arishem without much downside. Selene is your biggest downside this week, but this is easily the best week of the entire month. At least we close the year with an exciting new card!
