Marvel Snap Balance OTA Analysis and New Decks to Play – March 26, 2026

Check out the changes brought by the OTA and stock up on new decks to play !

Table of Contents

There is a lot to say about this OTA, clearly geared towards helping the Rock archetype be a competitor in the current metagame. However, even if the intent behind those changes is quite obvious, and I typically don’t like to be told what to play, I kind of like this OTA overall.

Not because I find the Rock deck particularly appealing. Rather, I like the fact it is far from a dominant archetype, meaning Second Dinner had to make some impactful changes.
The bigger ones target Negative Destroy, a strong synergy, but not a problematic one as Mobius M. Mobius didn’t even have to come back lately. Fortunately, hurting Mister Negative can be done through improving, or at least granting more power to cards, meaning we don’t have to butcher any in order to get the intended balance. At most, nerfing both Frigga and Gambit Horseman of Death feels a little too much, but I’m sure both cards will survive it.

It would have been perfect with something to contain Move and Shou-Lao the Undying, two synergies we inevitably expect to take over whenever an OTA happens.

Nerfs

Now a [5/8]

I agree with Second Dinner’s sentiment that the Master of the Sun is too permissive when it comes to generating a ton of energy. As a 5-cost, the card will be much harder to leverage multiple turns in a row.

However, a base [5/8] means the card is now a solid standalone in decks designed to play with leftover energy. Indeed, if we keep a bit for two or three turns, the Master of the Sun will be a [5/10] or [5/11] pushing us to 8 or 9 energy on the last turn of play.

Fewer shenanigans, the end of its run alongside Mister Negative, but still a playable card for the likes of High Evolutionary.

Now a [5/5]

In my opinion, Cannonball is a stellar card because Mercury is a fantastic 3-cost. Mercury is this good because Move has been a excellent performer for a long time, and often needs to be kept in check.

Less power to Cannonball obviously will impact its performance, but as long as we’ll run Mercury in our flexible or disruptive decks, Cannonball will inevitably be a consideration. Worst case, we’ll pair it with Merlin in order to Polymorph our 5-cost.

Now a [3/3]

I don’t get this one to be honest, as the Victoria Hand archetype failed to become much of a threat, even after Gambit Horseman of Death joined Marvel Snap. I guess this is good news for Cerebro 3, but doesn’t make a ton of sense overall.

Now requires 6 total Cost of created cards

There were two strong patterns with the card, completing the objective early to destroy foundational cheap cards, or duplicating Gambit Horseman of Death in order to destroy more cards on game’s end.

Valentina stills provides a 4-cost card able to complete the objective, so the first scenario is still available, although more niche. However, the likes of Thanos, Kate Bishop and such small increments will feel much slower. The second scenario should also be relatively the same, as decks designed to create more of Gambit Horseman of Death should easily play 6 total Cost of created cards.

Overall, the card won’t feel very different, which is great because Gambit Horseman of Death didn’t feel like a problem at all. Rather, this feels like an attempt to help the flavor of the moment : Rock decks.

Buffs

Now a [6/1]

Second Dinner is not hiding the fact this is an attempt at nerfing Mister Negative, as Gorr won’t be drawn with Jane Foster anymore. On top of the Master of the Sun, the discussion about whether we should run Mobius M. Mobius again is probably over.

Now grants Thor +7 Power.
Now is a [0/4]

With Mister Negative taking a beating in this patch, Jane Foster could be out of a job, so Second Dinner is helping the Hammer Time archetype a bit. The deck is quite far from a competitive option at the moment, but had a spark early in the season with En Sabah Nur. This should give it another shot at some spotlight.

Now a [2/2]

The card has been removed from the Thanos archetype since it started using Aurora. Likely, this is not enough, but a buff to an underplayed card nonetheless.

Now a [3/5]

The Rocks archetype needs to work for this week’s card to have any purpose. As such, Gambit Horseman of Death is nerfed, while Caiera gains power so it won’t feel so bad to have it in our deck to protect from Killmonger and such destroy abilities.

Now a [2/3]

Destroy is nowhere to be seen lately, although the push to Rock decks might give it a great match-up. With this small buff, Second Dinner is also reminding the community that archetype exists.

Now a [3/4]

This is a buff to be excited about, as extra power to cards rewarded for winning their location can snowball quickly. Viv Vision doesn’t have a featured archetype at the moment, but could find one soon if she can win her location a couple of turns in a row.
