For the vast majority of the community, Gambit Horseman of Death is a stronger card than En Sabah Nur, and I would tend to agree. Its synergies with fantastic 2-cost cards such as Valentina or Iron Patriot, added to its rather simple objective make the 3-cost arguably the best objective card at the moment.
Yet, following the OTA, En Sabah Nur is posting almost identical numbers.
I see two possible explanations. First, the season pass card already found its best archetype in Thanos Aurora, an excellent deck so far this season. On the other hand, Gambit Horseman of Death is seeing play in a multitude of builds, which naturally drives its numbers down.
The other reason is how each card operates. The 3-cost wins games when it goes off and removes a key target. En Sabah Nur loses them when we get the wrong pull while we had a big power card left in our deck.
Typically, we don’t wait for turn 6 to trigger Gambit Horseman of Death, so we can retreat when the destruction didn’t go our way, or snap if it did. In that sense, we have control over the ability, and control how many cubes we invest in it. En Sabah Nur will more often trigger late in a match, costing us more cubes when luck is not our on side.
It is pretty fun to observe how the timing of the objective heavily impact our perception of each card.
| Mission | # | Reward |
|---|---|---|

| Win with Gambit Horseman of Death starting in your Deck | 8 | 150 Gold |
En Sabah Nur Performance

We can’t really compare the metric with the ones from the first week, as there are a lot of interferences early in the season. Yet, it seems like the OTA had a positive impact on En Sabah Nur, especially when it comes to its play rate. Last week, the card was part of 2.2% games below the infinite rank and 6.8% past that threshold. Both numbers have more than doubled a week later.
The performance isn’t stellar, as both the 0.12 cube average or 52% are average numbers. Yet, Thanos keeps doing well, while the season pass card synergize with the new Sandstorm as well.
Thus, it likely En Sabah Nur will be a part of this metagame, even if one could wish for an even better card.

Gambit Horseman of Death

Following the OTA, Gambit Horseman of Death isn’t doing better than En Sabah Nur in the Infinite rank. The card is placed in the higher tier mostly due to its popularity, as the win and cube rates are basically the same.
What separates Gambit Horseman of Death from the season pass card however, is the versatility. Indeed, any deck able to welcome a bit of card creation, through the likes of Valentina, Iron Patriot and the like, can consider Gambit Horseman of Death in the list.
Considering the higher ranks are mostly a matter of flexibility, and finding how to control the snap mechanic, this gives an edge to the 3-cost, more able to fit in a variety of decks, depending which are performing best.
This could also explain why Gambit Horseman of Death is widely considered better than En Sabah Nur while sporting the same metrics. It is likely the 3-cost numbers would improve if we only considered the best archetypes using it.

Bonus Challenge Decks
Gambit Horseman of Death and En Sabah Nur synergize quite well if you can find cheap ways to create cards. Thanos is perfect in that regard, but a new build using Sandstorm, the reward card from the Team Clash mode.
Both decks have good enough numbers to complete all missions at once.
