Developer Update for the Week of November 30, 2022: Post-Patch Edition!

Hello all! With so many people wanting to know what is coming up in Marvel Snap and what the developers are saying, every week I will be breaking down what developers are saying on their official Discord! If you want to stay up to date with what’s coming and what answers dev’s have for the community, make sure to check back here each week! This week’s edition comes right after the update yesterday, and there are many questions people have about it! We will break down today’s update into “Update News” and “Other News”. Answers to questions will be prefaced with the developer who said it. Answers and questions may be slightly rephrased for more clarity and ease of reading.

Update News

Q: After the update, my token shop had it’s first reset and I was offered the same series 3 card twice. Is this intended?

A: Stephen “This is a known issue if you have very few series 3 cards remaining. We will fix it in a future update. Sorry if you are facing it!”

Q: It seems like I can’t see Orka‘s shadow in my unowned collection tab and haven’t seen him in game. Is Orka not in the game yet despite being announced?

A: Stephen “We had a bug with his release. He will be added soon.”

Q: Flair modifiers earned from infinity splits now have a chance to roll one in seven different colors: red, green, blue, purple, black, white, and gold. Flare modifiers unlocked before this update will now rotate through multiple colors. Can we still roll for rainbow after the update?

A: Stephen “Yes you can still roll rainbow”

Q: I just got a glitched cache that gave me no rewards, and another that game me boosters. I thought boosters were removed from caches? And why am I getting no rewards?

A: Stephen “We are aware of issues causing difficulty with collecting rewards. We are currently investigating and working to resolve this as soon as possible!”

Q: Should we wait to open our caches because of the glitch?

A: Stephen “Do not open any more caches at this time”

Q: Will there be any compensation for the broken caches/reserves?

A: Stephen “We are still working on the fix. We will update everyone once we know more”

Q: The credit cap was previously 5k credits, but with the launch of the new shop offer, has the cap increased?

A: Stephen “Increased to 10k”

Q: Do you guys plan on having cyber holidays in the shop every month after the current one ends?

A: Stephen “Yes, we plan to continue doing bundles with cool cosmetics and currency. The price, contents, and cadence will vary.”

Q: Does pinning a card in the token shop change it’s drop rate?

A: Stephen “It does not change the drop rate”

Q: If we pin a card that we cannot afford yet and that card goes down in series, will it dynamically update price in the shop?

A: Stephen “Yes”

Q: Is there any timeline on when cards will downgrade to lower series?

A: Stephen “We’re still figuring out the exact details of cards moving between series – it’s a whole new system and we are eager to see how players engage with it. But our goal is that cards generally take months, not years, to move down series.”

Q: If you buy a card in the token shop and that card is later nerfed, will there be a refund?

A: Stephen “No plans to offer refunds on credits or token purchases”

Q: Will newly released cards enter the random card pool as soon as they become collectable (i.e. through Agent 13 effects)?

A: Stephen “Yes they will be”

Other News

Q: Will there ever be times a card is revisited and given a new animation or voiceline?

A: TheChristAlan “Oh yes! There’s definitely the possibility of this in the future! You’ll notice in some patches that cards which didn’t previously have vfx/sfx get that additional treatment later on (like Adam Warlock was). It’s just a matter of priority.”

Q: What are developers looking forward to being introduced to the game?

A: Stephen “It’s going to take a bit but I can’t wait for more things to do with friends like clans and clan wars”

Q: Most card games have a rotating standard format to help designers with creating new cards without having to worry about power creep. Are you considering this or any other solutions to growing card pool issues?

A: Stephen “No plans to do this at this time. We have done a good job of avoiding power creep so far and hope to continue that.”

Q: Similar to token shop, will there be a way to pin variants in the shop in the future?

A: Stephen “No plans to add pinning variants at this time”

Q: What are the Second Dinner Holiday break plans looking like?

A: Stephen “We have some things planned that will be timed releases, however the team is not working between Christmas and New Years.”

Q: When new weekly cards are released, what series will they go into?

A: Stephen “New card releases will be series 5”

Q: Will there be sales on Gold or Variants?

A: Stephen “No plans to do any discounts or sales. In general, my philosophy is that those are not healthy because it creates price and value erosion. We do have plans to add more bundles.”

Q: Will there be a way to preview variants in game in the future so you don’t have to use 3rd party sites?

A: We want to add this! It will make it in eventually but no ETA right now.

Q: Are there any plans to let us play on Steam Deck?

A: Stephen “Our engineers are passionate about fixing it but I don’t have an ETA”

Q: Will Snap add redemptions for Google Play points?

A: Stephen “We would like to do this in the future but no ETA right now”

Q: Do retreats count against your mmr?

A: Stephen “Cubes gained/lost affects mmr more that win rate.
