Developer Update for the Week of December 14, 2022: Game of the Year Winner Edition!

Hello all! Welcome back to this week’s breakdown of what’s happening over on the Marvel Snap official Discord! If you want to stay up to date with what’s coming and what answers developers have for the community, make sure to check back here each week! This week’s edition comes after the announcement that Marvel Snap won Mobile Game of the Year! Answers to questions will be prefaced with the developer who said it. Answers and questions may be slightly rephrased for more clarity and ease of reading.

This Week’s Questions

Q: Congratulations on winning GOTY! Did the team do anything big to celebrate at the office?

A: Nicki Broderick “Many of us were in the office to celebrate together! It was super special!

Q: Are we still getting a reward for winning GOTY?

A: Stephen “We are still working out details on what we will give for game of they year.”

Q: Is shadow banning a thing?

A: Stephen “There is no shadow banning. We only suspend accounts for naming policy violations.”

Q: If I open a series 3 card, does my timer for series 4 reset?

A: Stephen “Series 3 and 4 are on separate pity timers.”

Q: Will the Hero Bundles ever come back in the future?

A: Stephen “The bundles are available for a limited time to celebrate the music video.”

Q: Are mystery variant wildcards always a 700 gold one?

A: Stephen “Yes.”

Q: If I buy a bundle that have cards I do not own, can I use those cards still and unlock the base card later?

A: Stephen “That is correct. If you do not own the base card it could also show up in your token shop.”

Q: Right now I see all cards I have upgrade materials for. Can I search for just the ones I have materials and credits to upgrade?

A: Stephen “This could be a better experience for sure. I recommend sorting by “quality” to see all of your commons at the top.”

Q: Would the team ever be open to introducing stat trackers to cards? Something like (Games won, locations won, cards destroyed, ect.) would be awesome!

A: Stephen “For a long time we have wanted to add trackers as a new split type. No ETA yet but I want it so bad”

Q: Was there a change in progression design philosophy? You once said during beta that you added caches so that “Completing an entire collection of every card will occur much faster than before”. Is this no longer relevant?

A: Stephen “We have always desired for every player to have a unique collection and journey through the game. That has not changed. Most of our team plays the game. We have used our own money to buy variants or progress, no free hand outs so we can experience the same thing as any other player. Using myself as an example, I have hit infinite every season as a primarily season pass only spender.”

Q: What are the possibilities of adding backgrounds to the game?

A: Stephen “We want to make new boards, but no ETA at this time”

  1. Shame the question “Was there a change in progression design philosophy?” was dodged.

    I would really like to understand how many new cards the devs intend for players to earn every month. Why not just be transparent about it?

    Based on the estimates I have read, players that have completed Pool 3 can expect to earn 1-2 new cards, after a full month of daily grinding. Is that intended?! For a “collectable” card game, that seems extremely low. Even more so since the devs keep adding new cards, but none have dropped to lower Pools.
