Good morning all! I’m back at Marvel Snap Zone every weekday with a deck of the day: a top deck for you to try out! My aim for this article is to get you in and out quickly and give you something new to play every day along with the tools to do well with it. If you want three more new decks today, check out this video!
Ares is the new card coming to Marvel Snap today, and, well, he doesn’t seem complicated.

Ares is a [4/6] that can become a [4/12] when you win his On Reveal ability. That’s a lot of stats—bigger, in fact, than the regular [4/10]s that Surtur decks like to run. In exchange for more stats, though, Ares has two big downsides. As an On Reveal card, his ability has to go off and work. Cosmo or just bad luck will keep him at [4/6], and Shadow King will revert his power. You can’t really control the latter one; if Shadow King is in the meta, you just need to try to play Ares late and away from Surtur so your opponents have to choose which big idiot to hit. The “making him go off” issue is easily solved, too: just play him with other big idiots. And that’s the deck I put together! But I want to win extra cubes, so I added a bit of spice.
The best part about Ares is that the God of War essentially makes you and your opponent play the card game War in Marvel Snap. Given that, you want to maximize his ability to go off by having big cards in the deck, right? Well, Quicksilver helps accomplish that pretty darn well. What’s more, Quicksilver all but guarantees that you’ll have a 1-Cost on the board to play your Cull Obsidian.
You do need another 1-drop though because Zabu is too good to skip. Getting any of the 4-Costs down to three is awesome, right? Yeah, I knew you’d agree. Playing a [4/10] or Ares on Turn 6 with another 4-Cost or Juggernaut is really strong. Good luck planning for that, opponent!
Finally, the spiciest card is Heimdall. Opponents will try to go really big over you with cards like Iron Man. Well, when they do that and all the cards are suddenly in a different location, you get to win big cubes. See? Spicy.
Card Replacements
- Needs: Zabu, Surtur, Skaar, Cull Obsidian
- Ares -> Cosmo, Iron Patriot
- If Shang-Chi doesn’t materialize, I’d go for Armor, Iron Patriot, or Cosmo.
Turn by Turn
- Turn 1: Zabu > Quicksilver
- Turn 2: Zabu > Armor
- Turn 3: Surtur > 4-Cost > 2-Cost (you can still happily play Zabu here)
- Turn 4: Pick a 4-drop, any 4-drop! Ares is worst, Attuma is second worst in the early turns
- Turn 5: Aero > discounted 4-Cost + Armor > 4-Cost
- Turn 6: Skaar and Heimdall or Juggernaut / Armor
That’s it for today, don’t forget to check today’s video for more great decks!
