Snap Judgments Deck of the Day: My Day 1 Goliath/Captain Carter Deck!

Good morning all! I’m back at Marvel Snap Zone with a deck of the day: a top deck for you to try out! My aim for this article is to get you in and out quickly and give you something new to play every day along with the tools to do well with it. Check out the video for a verbal explanation of this and three other new decks.

This video also has your chance to win a FREE Captain Carter, so check it out!

It’s new Season Pass day! First, before I talk about the card, I cannot urge you enough to get the Season Pass (if you can afford it). It’s more than 12x the regular progression value, which makes it around 10x better than most bundles while also allowing you to far better keep up with new cards. The card has also been worth it since at least last September—a six month streak—and before the miss that was Symbiote Spider-Man we had Hawkeye Kate Bishop and Gwenpool. I would say the odds are strongly in this card’s favor.

Captain Carter introduces a new mechanic to Marvel Snap: caring about card placement in the front and back rows. Despite (or more accurately, because of) costing four energy, she wants to be in the front row, at which point her Ongoing ability gives her Power to the back row. That’s a base of +6 power, which effectively makes her a [4/9] if you can fill her lane (and you should plan to fill her lane!). She’s also an Ongoing ability, so any buff of any type to her will affect the cards behind her; that’s a really good deal.

There are a ton of cards that buff, from America Chavez to Spectrum, but the latter is where I’m going to want to start since Ongoing cards have been so strong lately. But before I get to that, let’s talk about our Spotlight card this week.

While Captain Carter might be best in an Ongoing list, Goliath definitely wants to be in one. In fact, he should be an auto-include in Ongoing, as his ability to grow with other Ongoing cards puts him squarely in that archetype. Still, an Ongoing deck will essentially always have at least 5 Ongoing cards by the end of the game, which makes him a base of [2/6] without the downside of Lizard, and the upside, as more Ongoing cards are played, of much more. He reads as a [2/1] but will basically always be played with Sam Wilson Captain America, which makes him a [2/2]. He’s certainly going to be a good card; he has a very high floor, and if you like Ongoing he’s about as safe a buy as they come.

So, you want to get lots of Ongoings for this card, right?

When Spectrum was buffed to a [6/7] the week before Doctor Doom 2099 came out, I created the shell that ended up being the dominant one for the card. It’s only been updated with Sam Wilson Captain America as the months went on. Eventually, that shell was nerfed by hitting the DoomBot 2099s down to a base power of 0, but this week we get two cards to bring them back!

First, Goliath loves DoomBot 2099. In a deck that also runs Sam Wilson, just playing Doom 2099 on Turn 4 creates four other Ongoing cards on the board. Goliath‘s presence is essentially +1 power per DoomBot 2099, which is equal to their old base power. Plus, you have to assume SOME other Ongoings will be played as well, so he’s likely to be quite a bit bigger than that.

Captain Carter wants to be played late and in the front row, so a bunch of cards behind her make sense. The Doombots start with low power and scale upward. That seems like the perfect place for Captain Carter, as giving them +3 Power makes sense. The deck also runs Blue Marvel, Captain America, and Spectrum to scale up Peggy.

Welcome back Doctor Doom 2099! The Captains have got you covered!
