Deck Thoughts

Butt is a phenomenal deck builder, always in the top 100, but this season was the first time he took climbing Infinite Ladder seriously and he ended up in the top 5.

Butt used several lists, but the top-end climb was this great tempo deck built around using Squirrel Girl as a way to get a cheap Mockingbird and a cheap death. Other cards benefit this gameplan, as well, with Hood being great to eat with Carnage or Killmonger and giving a Demon to make Mockingbird cheaper.

The Annihilus package, too, gives extra cards to make Mockingbird cheap, notably Sentry‘s The Void is great fodder to destroy, which makes Baron Zemo‘s package, too, helps each, as Baron Zemo is a card for Mockingbird and Gladiator often destroying a card. Of course, pulling it all together, Lady Deathstrike can help make board spice while wiping out a section of your opponent’s board.

The high Series cards here are required.

Deck Thoughts

FAK Molwin, a member of the FAK team in eastern Europe, hit top 4 with a Loki deck teched to beat Junk.

This looks a lot like one of the two popular Loki build right now. Loki decks are either built around using Kitty Pryde and Angela for non-Loki points or Baron Zemo and Gladiator. We’ll see that first type of list soon, but this deck forgoes both packages to go all-in on tech cards.

In addition to the traditional Loki package – Loki, Quinjet, Agent Coulson, Cable, Snowguard – this is almost all tech. Shang-Chi, Red Guardian, Rogue, Cosmo are all traditional tech cards. The only non-points card here is Mockingbird, and she’s just such cheap power it’s hard to resits.

Red Guardian here can be Jeff the Baby Land Shark, Nocturne, or Luke Cage. Snowguard can be Maria Hill, and replacing Mockingbird is usually pretty straightforward by using Devil Dinosaur.

Deck Thoughts:

Woody used at least 6-decks this season, but the one not covered in this space yet is the Patriot brew.

This is a surprisingly straightforward Patriot list, at least pre-Ultron buff. It uses the usual Brood, Mister Sinister, Absorbing Man combos for power, and amplifies them with Iron Man, Patriot, and Silver Surfer.

Beyond Woody’s great play though, what really puts this over the top is the surprise factor of Cannonball. With the biggest power generator in your own deck a card like Patriot or Iron Man, Cannonball gives extra power against opposing decks looking to take advantage of your limited board space.

Cannonball, is, though, replaceable with Shang-Chi here. Mockingbird and Iron Lad are required for this particular build of the deck.

Deck Thoughts

Tanjo dominated, as he always does with Loki, as he’s likely the best player of that particular deck in the world.

This is a fairly expected Loki list. It has the package mentioned in the #4 deck while using Kitty Pryde, Angela, and Elsa Bloodstone as its power engine. There’s no Hope Summers here, as Red Guardian is too strong as a tech answer for cards like Iron Man or Patriot, and the big surprise is Shang-Chi is out for U.S. Agent. The Agent can be played early as a control piece, not forcing to wait on Loki like Shang-Chi would, and is such a great idea.

You can still replace U.S. Agent with Shang-Chi, here. Kitty Pryde and Elsa Bloodstone are needed. Mockingbird can still be Devil Dinosaur while Red Guardian can be replaced by Rogue or Cosmo. Snowguard is, as always, fine as Maria Hill.

Deck Thoughts

FAK Crazy is #1 for the second season in a row after being second in February.

This month, like last, was a Hela Thanos list. The deck got less consistent with the Thanos nerf, for sure, but that makes the Hela package ever both since you’re fine discarding Thanos, if not, you always have him in hand to play on turn 5. Hela is a backup plan for this list though, as it still wants to win by putting huge power everywhere. Now it can also protect that power with Caiera, as this is just the biggest, meanest deck around when it goes off.

Caiera can be Shang-Chi or Enchantress for this. Red Hulk can be Alioth or She-Hulk here. Mockingbird would be replaced with Cull Obsidian or Crossbones. Hope Summers, Thanos, and Corvus Glaive are all required. Mobius is fine to replace with either Shang or Rogue while Jeff’s best replacement is Psylocke.

Top of the Ladder – Early May

Deck Thoughts

Braude, the famed Marvel Snap Bugle on Twitter, hit #1 with this brew from our friend Gnome Plays.

This list combined the stellar Darkhawk package with the dominant Annihilus package. These cards have long gone together, but don’t always crossover perfectly. The bounce package basically ties the two together, particularly Beast. Beast gives a way for Darkhawk to get extra rocks and disruption while also allowing an answer for the Void and The Hood.

All the disruption to both the hand and the board allowed by both packages is here supplemented by the Kitty Angela package. The pressure of their early power combined with the late power of the aforementioned packages is a surefire ticket to high rank!

Darkhawk, Annihilus, Kitty, and Hope Summers are absolute requirements here, but Nico Minoru can be a simple card like Iceman, Jeff, or Nightcrawler.

Deck Thoughts

Brasilian player EvaZord peaked at #3 with this hilarious scam list that focusses on getting Legion onto a Storm lane.

This deck does a lot with early power – Sunspot and Nebula are both capable of sitting and growing. With a Legion and Storm in hand, that’s all you do – play good tempo cards until the combo, but without either, Blink gives insane consistency. Storm on 3 into Jubilee on 4 can either pull Legion or make Legion a very likely pull from Blink. Once that happens, it’s GG.

Cannonball here can be Vision. Nebula or Jeff can be Nightcrawler, though there isn’t another great replacement if you’re missing both. You need Legion and Blink.

Deck Thoughts

French phenom Owi climbed all the way to #2 with this list.

At its core, this deck is about abusing Leech or Jubilee into Blink. That play is crazy strong, and results in either a Klaw, Doctor Doom, or Red Hulk. The rest of the deck is good-stuff cards, which is actually pretty frustrating since Nebula, White Widow, Jeff, Nocturne, and Red Guardian are all series 5. The best-in-slot cards are just prohibitively expensive right now.

But that doesn’t make them irreplaceable. Nebula here can be Iceman. White Widow can be Lizard or Medusa. Jeff is fine as Nightcrawler. Nocturne and Red Guardian can be Gladiator or Polaris and Rogue. Even Red Hulk can be replaced with Magneto.

Deck Thoughts

Unlike that last list, our friend MyleeeC hit #1 with this all Series 3 deck!

This list is about Invisible Woman abuse. You can use her to scam out and protect Patriot plays or do the same with Klaw. Either way, you put out an absolute ton of power an opponent cannot interact with. A Cosmo on that lane means little, as Ultron elsewhere is perfectly fine, especially in a lane that will be hit by Klaw, going from 0 to 17 Power in a lane immediately.

Ultron is just the most points on one card. Even without help, he’s a [6/24]. Patriot will be one of the best decks as long as that’s true. This deck needs no replacements since everything is Series 3, but Super-Skrull is a great fit for anything you’re missing.
