Annihilus and Ms. Marvel Decks: Weekend Challenge Mission Guide

Our guide for the this week's set of Weekend Challenge Missions featuring Annihilus and Ms. Marvel! Complete the missions efficiently using our decks, or find out how they are performing and decide if you want the card!

During the weekend, there is now one more set of Missions for players to complete: The Weekend Missions! These involve additional rewards for winning games related to the week’s new card and the Season Pass card. These missions provide extra Collector’s Tokens and Gold! This week’s Weekend Challenges are:

Mission#Reward
Win a Location with 10 or Less Power7200 Credits
Win with Ms. Marvel starting in your Deck8150 Gold
Win with Annihilus starting in your Deck4200 Collector’s Tokens

You need to win games with the card starting in your deck, and it does not count if the card was generated by cards such as Cable, Loki, and Maria Hill. Each of these reward amounts will vary depending on the difficulty of the mission. There will be Weekly Missions available for each new card release. The goal of Weekly Missions is to allow players to earn back Collector’s Tokens from new cards and subsidize their cost.

The token missions are expected to differ from week to week, depending on the card. For example, three wins for 100 Collector’s Tokens, four wins for 300, and five wins for 500, depending on the week (1,000 Collector’s Tokens is on the highest end).

Most players will want to be efficient with these missions, so today we will give you different decks that incorporate Annihilus and Ms. Marvel.

We’ll also give you a short guide on how to get the most out of the deck and finish the missions quickly, but first let’s take a quick look at the new card’s performance this week.

Annihilus Meta Stats
Annihilus Meta Stats

Annihilus is the last Series 5 card for our November Season, and was the most highly anticipated. He represents as a potential finisher for the Junk archetype which has always been at the fringes of the Marvel Snap metagame.

The card comes with promises to bring the archetype up to the level of common synergy decks like Destroy and Discard, but does it do enough to bring the archetype to the forefront, or is it good enough on its own to create something new?

The Junk cards are the most obvious synergy for the card. Anything which can produce negative power cards on your side of the board is in consideration to pair with the card, and when you pull off the swap, it is as powerful as it seems on the surface. Sending over the -10 power The Void without an answer from your opponent is powerful for example. The Hood alone can pair with the card also for value. Debrii when it hits, can end games on Turn 5.

All of these cards are significantly more playable with the release of Annihilus, creating multiple ways to play these cards and negate the negative effects. This is a big selling point to the card. Even if the current placement is lower, the ability to support cards in your collection which may have fallen off recently is something to consider!

Unfortunately, the main synergy which has emerged to make the card playable the most often is not the full Junk package. It’s the big bodies and value attached the On Reveal synergy cards for Annihilus combining with Werewolf By Night.

This high value synergy bouncing Werewolf By Night around whilst providing high value is where the most success is being found currently for the card. the deck operates in a similar fashion as pre the release of the card but is easily the way to squeeze the highest win rate for Annihilus.

The real issue for the card is how counterable it is in practice and if the package versions are actually needed over just playing other versions. Fill the right lane? The Void will not head over. Your opponent plays Armor – the cards can not head over and you will get stuck with the -10 power. The Hood is usually telegraphed really early in the game, which allows for plans to made around the card heading over or to block the swap.

Whilst the Destroy effect is nice, the real power of the card is only realized when the cards actually land on the opponents side of the board. This ignores the ability of Destroy effects to negate all this work also. The problem is Annihilus can be countered by good play and it is easy to see what is coming. This is one of the reasons the card is currently underperforming what the expectations were. The package can be made to work in several decks, however for now the archetype isn’t quite powerful enough and that might be a good thing.

If you want a card which allows you to play some different cards from your collection whilst improving an archetype which has always been on the fringes, Annihilus is a card worth considering.

So, how do you use Annihilus to rack up wins and complete the Weekend Challenge Missions?

The full Junk direction is best met with Debrii and Absorbing Man. We need ways to reactivate the effects to really abuse the full lockdown. The problem is, this can be fragile to counters but as you add cards to mitigate this, your ability to win the favourable and mirror matches severely decreases. So for the missions, I recommend this all-in route.

Be careful when activating Annihilus early if you cannot reactivate with Absorbing Man on turn 6. Into Destroy decks, keep the negative power on your side as long as possible and remember the -10 power being destroyed weakens Knull.

With the Werewolf By Night direction, we found the most success running this build throughout the week. Plenty of builds incorporate the Darkhawk package, but the above (which originated from KMBest) cuts these and The Sentry and Annihilus package is the other power output alongside the Werewolf.

This style has been showing up more often, including Ms. Marvel and some of the Lockdown cards. The direction here deviates slightly, including Zabu to allow for Ms. Marvel and another 4 drop to be played before the key Turn 5 plays. Valkyrie being included with Luke Cage can allow you to target the Sentry lane also, which can be devastating and lead to high cube swings.

This build does a few bolder changes. First, The Hood is dropped for Echo, due to the expectation of seeing more Ms. Marvel decks during the weekend. We can swap this back when this is not the case. We also have Man-Thing to try and target decks playing lower cost cards. We are also going into the weekend without Debrii, which can be awkward without the Annihilus draws.

I am aware this may seem like cheating as Ms. Marvel features again, but this deck is more all in on the Lockdown aspects of the cards. Again, Echo features due to the meta and our primary payoffs are only Sentry and Debrii.

We have to be careful on our 1 drop placements as we may need to use Debrii as activation for Ms. Marvel in some circumstances also, and outside of this we have Storm, Vision, and Alioth as the supporting package which can shift power and deny opponents.

Decks with Ms. Marvel

Ms. Marvel is still currently a really strong performer in the metagame, so we have plenty of decks to choose from without the inclusion of Annihilus, featured in our latest Meta Tier List:

Closing Thoughts

Wins with the new card may seem a tall order some weeks depending what quality of card is released. Hopefully this guide helps you decide first if you want the card prior to the missions coming out, and what you can potentially play to complete the missions quickly!
