The Peak Hot Location Guide: Strategy, Best Cards, and Decks
This week’s Marvel Snap Hot Location is The Peak: Each card in your hand swaps its Power and Cost. This is a hot location for Marvel Snap’s May 2023 season, Guardians’ Greatest Hits. For the next 24 hours, it will now have a 50% chance of showing up in games. Let’s find out what the best strategies, cards, and decks are for the new meta!

Strategy and General Tips
Basically, play Mister Negative.

I’m tempted to leave the article right there, but we will go deeper as we always do because every location can be a learning opportunity. The Peak incentivizes decks that have cards with low power and high energy, such as Iron Man, but cards like Knull, Galactus, Arnim Zola, Darkhawk, Wong, and Silver Surfer can become even stronger when flipped by The Peak.

This location cannot be impacted by location transformation effects, which limits counter play. The location also bricks many decks. Anything with greater power over energy is almost unplayable if it is hit by The Peak. However, it caps all flips at six energy, so cards like Red Skull become six energy for five power if hit by The Peak.
Due to this, if you’re planning on grinding during this location you absolutely need to consider the impact of the location on your deck. Consistent Mister Negative decks are hard to find, so that may lead to wanting to try and counter the field instead. Cards that can be flipped and counter other decks include Sandman and Professor X. These two cards could both potentially hit the board on Turn 3 and win the game on the spot. This may end up being more consistent than waiting on The Peak high roll games.

Deck Ideas
Mister Negative decks synergize too well with this location. This build has five cards that become free if hit by The Peak or Mister Negative. Versions like this often include Jane Foster Mighty Thor in the deck to pull the flipped cards, but she is a terrible hit with The Peak so she is cut here. The best hit with The Peak is always Mister Negative though!
Arnim Zola and Knull is a combination that is incredibly satisfying if you get to pull it off, and it’s well worth giving a run during the location. If we miss the combination, using Arnim Zola on an inverted Iron Man or Darkhawk is still huge.
Mister Negative and Silver Surfer may be more ‘consistent’ as this deck can win with and without the The Peak or Mister Negative hitting some key pieces, but the ceiling raises significantly if hit by either one. The plan here is simple: play Wong into Silver Surfer with Brood and other 3-drops on board. All the 3-drops in this list benefit from the location, allowing you to drop massive amounts of power on the final turns.

So how do we counter this craziness? Well, we look to another card which is great into The Peak – Sandman. The early game here are cards that are not hurt by The Peak, and we carry plenty of 4- and 6-cost cards that we don’t mind being hit by the location (other than Odin). Odin remains because it can retrigger effects on Turn 6.
Professor X and Sandman could both be played as early as Turn 3, which is bound to win lanes and limit opposing game plans. Combine this with cards that impact multiple lanes post-Sandman and it should hopefully lead to a lot of locked out games as opponents hold cards for late game shenanigans.
One card that may seem missing is Devil Dinosaur. This was due to the tendency to be able to play more of your cards due to The Peak rather than fewer, leading to some potentially small Dinos – even with a Turn 3 Sandman.
OK, look away. The way to combine both counter play and an effective win condition is….. Galactus. Mister Negative could be added, but it shouldn’t be necessary.
We have Adam Warlock and Psylocke over the usual builds due to their effectiveness off The Peak, but otherwise our plan remains the same: destroy everything with Galactus and play Knull. We also have Arnim Zola to activate our Nimrod or copy Knull, as well as Professor X for early lane lockdowns. This allows the deck to operate better with The Peak while maintaining a solid game plan for games without the location.
Pool 2
Although we do not have Mister Negative in Pool 2, we can modify an On Reveal deck to take advantage of the hot location while still being strong without it. Here we have Morph as an additional 3-drop that plays nicely with the location, and we’ve included Professor X for a potential Turn 3 lockdown.
What is The Peak?

The Peak is a high-tech facility in the Marvel Universe that serves as the headquarters for S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department), a government agency dedicated to protecting the Earth from extra-terrestrial threats. Located in Earth’s orbit, The Peak is a bustling hub of activity, where scientists, agents, and superheroes work together to monitor the skies and keep the planet safe.

Look, much as I like Negative decks being force-fed them for 24 hours is a bit much. Not the sort of location that should be “hot” in future.
Yep. And it can’t even (reliably) be played around with Rhino/SW/Reality Stone, as it’s an “on reveal” location. I don’t think those should ever be hot/featured. You would either have to Uatu or guess with SW/RS or run Snowguard and happen to draw it early.
On the contrary, those are the best kind of locations to shake up the meta for a day (not to mention you weren’t forced into playing only Negative decks and that there were counters). I’ve had the most fun with The Peak this season than on any other day or week.
