Marvel Snap Spotlight Cache Rotation - May 28, 2024

Spotlight Cache Week of May 28, 2024: Are Sasquatch, Ravonna Renslayer, and Havok Worth It?

In this new series Cache-ing In, we look into each featured card of the weekly Spotlight Cache, how you might use them, their variants, and whether if it's worth pulling for or pass on to the next week!

Welcome back to our new weekly series Cache-ing In! Each week, we break down what cards will be available in the new Spotlight Caches, as well as the Spotlight Variants! The goal is to help you determine if you should “Cache in” for the content, or hoard for a better week.

We also now feature the other two existing cards in more detail in a separate guide, not just the new one! The goal is to give you a tutorial on how to use the card most effectively in an everchanging meta, as well as help you decide if the card is worth the tokens or if you should pick it up during a Spotlight Cache week! Check them out below:

Sasquatch

With this season already coming to a close, we get our final new card Sasquatch! He is a 6-Cost, 10-Power with the ability “Costs 1 less for each card you played last turn.” Sasquatch is the game’s latest stat-stick card, and he has a ton of potential. If Mockingbird taught us anything, cards that discount themselves as you simply play your deck are very strong. Sasquatch synergizes with lots of cards and decks, making him a very exciting card to cook with.

Possible Meta Deck for Sasquatch

The greatest synergy for Sasquatch is Mysterio. By playing Mysterio on turn 2, he counts as 3 cards played and Sasquatch becomes a [3/10]! This deck builds around this synergy, as well as other cards that synergize well with Mysterio and Sasquatch. Mockingbird gets a discount from the illusions and Demon, Bishop gets triggers from each of Mysterio‘s illusions, and Hit Monkey grows bigger for every card played with him. Combine this with the Kitty package and Beast to allow multiple turns of card dump, this deck has multiple win conditions and multiple cards that get passive discounts.

I added War Machine to this list for multiple reasons. With new card debuts, you will frequently find players playing counter decks. War Machine allows you to counter both lockdown and Sandman lists. In a mirror match, you get the advantage of having the full board to play your cards where your opponent may be restricted by locations. In a couple of weeks, you may want to swap our War Machine for another bounce card to remain more synergistic.

This deck takes the zoo idea of early collection level and uses Sasquatch for a final turn payoff. Typically, you would play your 1-Cost cards early game, then finish with Ka-Zar, Blue Marvel, and Onslaught. This deck lets you setup your plays with Okoye, Nakia, Angela, Bishop, and Ka-Zar. On turn 5, you play as many low-Cost cards as you can. This gives you the option of playing Sasquatch as a finisher on turn 6 along with another card. If you manage to play all your 1-Cost cards on turn 5, you can even play Sasquatch and Blue Marvel on turn 6!

Fun Sasquatch Deck

With the nerfs to Thanos, the deck has fallen out of the meta. With that said, the deck can still be incredibly fun, and Sasquatch pairs great with Infinity Stones! Like Mockingbird, a card does have to reach zero cost to be worth using. By playing 3 Infinity Stones on turn 3, Sasquatch is playable on turn 4 with an extra Energy to spare! If you high rollled and played another infinity stone on turn 1 or 2, you can even play Mockingbird with Sasquatch on turn 4. 19 Power for 4 Energy is a great way to snowball the match.

Simply put, I think Sasquatch is the next Red Hulk. A good card with a simple ability. Unless you skip a turn, he will never cost 6, and even a 5/10 is considered good stats. While Mobius does hard counter Sasquatch, I think the card will have no hard time finding its long term place in the meta.

Check out our strategy guide and more decklists on this new card!

Ravonna Renslayer

Joining Sasquatch this week is the return of the rising star Ravonna Renslayer! When this card first launched, she was considered lackluster and an easy skip. After a couple of buffs and an increase of powerful cards that have 1 or less Power, Ravonna has quietly become a solid meta card. The ability to have a mini-Sera that can be played on turn 2 makes her extremely flexible and opens up new play lines that were previously more difficult to achieve.

Take this deck for example. Mister Negative has existed as a card since the game launced, but Ravonna helps the deck to elevate to a more consistent level. If you want to ramp out Mister Negative, Ravonna allows him to be played on turn 3 while also giving more cards an advantage that weren’t inverted. She also helps to give a secondary play line by combining with Sera and Onslaught to give you a bunch of discounts on your cards for a turn 6 dump play.

The good news for players who want Ravonna is that she is only Series 4, making her easier to obtain with tokens if you don’t want to use keys this week. With an ever-growing list of cards Ravonna can synergize with, this card is a must have investment in my opinion.

Havok

Closing out the month for this season’s final card is Havok! He is much more of a niche and difficult card to use than the other cards in this cache. While he is arguably a bad card, he does have some niche uses. Since no deck can operate without Energy, Havok almost requires being played on turn 5 or 6 as to not handicap yourself. For this reason, you want to combine him with Hope Summers or use him in a combo deck.

Please insert deck uuid. click the edit button for this block.

This deck goes to the line of combo deck. Using Quinjet, Ravonna, and Moon Girl, you can set up for an explosive turn 6 play. By skipping a play on turn 5 (and growing your Sunspot), you have the option of playing 2 Havoks, 2 She-Hulks, and potentially another card for 6 total Energy!

If it wasn’t already clear, decks featuring Havok are often decks for fun, not for meta competition. His payoff is simply too small for such a heavy restriction of losing Energy your Energy gain. While the card is only a Series 4, there isn’t a need to seek him out in his current state.

Spotlight Variants

If you already own the cards the Spotlight Cache offers, one of these variants will take it’s place! If you own none of the cards, the variants will appear after you open all four caches. Spotlight variants are time exclusive to their release week, and will only be available after 1 full year of time has passed.

After the year, they will be available for purchase, though no mention of cost yet. So if any of these Spotlight variants feel like a must have for you, make sure to Cache In if you have enough caches saved to guarantee the pull.

Havok gets to be unique as one of the only cards with 2 Hellfire Gala variants. This variant from artist Russell Dauterman is one of his many Hellfire Gala variants.

Should I Cache In?

This week holds a lower than average value of two Series 4 cards and one Sereies 5 card. Havok is the outlier of the week being purely a meme card. There are a few decks that can make him work, but he definitely isn’t meta. Ravonna is a solid card that keeps getting better over time. Sasquatch looks both promising and very fun!

My recommendation this week is to Cache In! Sasquatch carries the weight of this cache, but Ravonna picks up the slack that Havok creates. While lower in token value, this lineup offers 2 solid cards that have meta relevance, and 1 meme card that may be fun to mess around with.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
