Marvel Snap Spotlight Cache Rotation - May 14, 2024

Spotlight Cache Week of May 14, 2024: Are Sage, Legion, and The Living Tribunal Worth It?

In this new series Cache-ing In, we look into each featured card of the weekly Spotlight Cache, how you might use them, their variants, and whether if it's worth pulling for or pass on to the next week!

Welcome back to our new weekly series Cache-ing In! Each week, we break down what cards will be available in the new Spotlight Caches, as well as the Spotlight Variants! The goal is to help you determine if you should “Cache in” for the content, or hoard for a better week.

We also now feature the other two existing cards in more detail in a separate guide, not just the new one! The goal is to give you a tutorial on how to use the card most effectively in an everchanging meta, as well as help you decide if the card is worth the tokens or if you should pick it up during a Spotlight Cache week! Check them out below:

Sage

The newest card coming to Snap this week is Sage! She is a 3-Cost, 0-Power with the ability “On Reveal: +2 Power for each different Power among all other cards here.” This means Sage will gain +2 power for every card with unique Power in her location (including negative power).

Sage looks like an alternate option to Wolfsbane, but not exactly a strict upgrade. At their best, Wolfsbane can reach 7 Power, while Sage can reach 14 Power! If your opponent doesn’t play many cards or you fail to have unique costs, Sage can quickly fall in value.

As a 3-Cost card, Sage immediately goes into Silver Surfer decks for two reasons: She has obvious synergy and you want to play her as late game as possible. Since Silver Surfer decks often utilize Sera to dump multiple 3-Cost cards on the final turn, Sage could easily slot in to provide a massive power potential on the final turn.

While a wide range of cards are available to Surfer decks, this one aims to double dip cost reduction with Ravonna Renslayer to open explosive turn 6 plays. Wong and Mystique give the option for Iron Heart, Wolfsbane, Sage, or Silver Surfer to trigger numerous times to ensure you secure any location you want.

This deck aims to trigger your Sage and Wolfsbane on a full location, then move that big power to an empty location. Angela and Captain America can boost your location’s Power, while Kraven can be positioned to grow if you move cards into his location. White Tiger and Odin allow you to add power to multiple locations while also retriggering a moved Wolfsbane or Sage!

Since Sage has 0 Power, she fits perfectly with Mister Negative! This deck aims to be a combo deck. Grow Sage to a large Power using Wong and Mystique, then copy her Power with Taskmaster! With a successful Mister Negative flip, you can use Jane Foster Mighty Thor to fill your hand with great options to flood the board with Power.

Ravonna Renslayer doubles in this deck to both lower Negative’s cost to 3 and give an alternative play line without Negative! Using Ravonna, you can play Wong on turn 4, Mystique on turn 5, then Sage and Task Master on turn 6!

Overall, I think Sage will be a decent card. There are enough potential decks for her that she has a good chance of finding a permanent home. I don’t think that Sage will be a required meta card, but she could be a surprise power house if a location can build enough uniquely Powered cards.

The Living Tribunal

Making his next round to this week’s Spotlight Cache is the return of The Living Tribunal! This card used to be considered very bad. Over the last year, new card releases, buffs, and nerfs to key cards, Tribunal now stands as a surprisingly meta card. His decks are often a glass cannon style, meaning you either win big or lose big, rarely is it a close game.

The strength of The Living Tribunal can fluctuate based on the meta. If the meta contains too many counter cards or decks (like Junk decks), Tribunal will lose the glass cannon more often than win. In favorable metas, the glass cannon decks can dominate in the meta. This deck is a good example of one of those “Glass Cannon” decks.

The deck is combo centered and will only win if the combo succeeds. Your goal is to use Iron Man, Onslaught, Mystique, and Tribunal to create massive power at one location and spread it evenly to win the game. If you don’t draw your combo, you lose.

Sera and Ravonna Renslayer help give your combo the flexibility of dumping cards on the final turns. Magik extends the game to give more energy to complete combos. She also gives an extra card draw, as does Jubilee and potentially Iron Lad. The deck’s strength is very meta dependent, but is has the potential to dominate in the right environment.

Legion

Wrapping up this week’s lineup is the return of Legion! This is a solid card that is often slept on. Location control gives you a lot of Power in Snap, and Legion almost guarantees full control over locations. While he has a strong ability, 5-Cost card slots are competitive, so Legion frequently gets cut over more synergistic cards in popular decks. One deck he remains popular in is Sera Control.

Since this deck thrives on being reactive, Legion slots in well to give location reactiveness. While Nocturne is Snap’s newest location control card, Legion can win you matches by flipping locations specifically to hurt your opponent or let you plan around the outcome ahead of time.

Simply put, Legion is a solid card with a simple ability.

Spotlight Variants

If you already own the cards the Spotlight Cache offers, one of these variants will take it’s place! If you own none of the cards, the variants will appear after you open all four caches. Spotlight variants are time exclusive to their release week, and will only be available after 1 full year of time has passed.

After the year, they will be available for purchase, though no mention of cost yet. So if any of these Spotlight variants feel like a must have for you, make sure to Cache In if you have enough caches saved to guarantee the pull.

Should I Cache In?

This week resumes the regular value of two Series 5 cards and one Series 4 card. However, keep in mind that The Living Tribunal will be undergoing a Series Drop on June 4, 2024:

All 3 cards have potential within the meta, but all 3 cards are also not necessary to be meta competitive. Tribunal does unlock a new playstyle of deck, which is a big benefit.

Last week, I overvalued the cache. Nocturne turned out strong as predicted, but her strength isn’t enough to carry the weight of the Cache. This week, the supporting cards are meta enough that they help carry the weight of the Cache.

For that reason, I am recommending players Cache In! While each card may not be required to remain meta competitive, all 3 cards can be used in meta decks and enhance them in some way. The Living Tribunal is also unique enough that owning him opens new archetypes, which boosts the value of this cache.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
