Snap Judgments Presents: PulseGlazer’s Top 10 Decks: Agamotto Arrives

Good morning all! It’s Friday, so let’s do something special! I’m going to spend this article covering the Top 10 decks right now in Marvel Snap. On this site, you get the great den’s weekly Tier Lists, which are entirely data-driven. This will not be that.

This Tier List is my opinion based on top meta gameplay. Some viewers will ask, “if these are not top performing meta decks, why should I care about them?” The answer is simple: the majority of decks proliferate downward from the top meta players. Most of the best deck builders are top meta players, and decks at that level are built to counter each other so the meta ends up spiraling downward through the Ladder.

These 10 decks are all Top Tier and presented in no particular order.

Finally, I’m not doing turn-by-turn breakdowns or card replacements for this article. If you’re interested in that (and two bonus decks), be sure to check out the video above!

The Top 10

Right now in Marvel Snap, there are two competing metas. One is the “go tall, giant combo” meta. That seems to be, after checking stats, around 30% of games. The other meta runs mid-range cards and tries to win by thin margins. Scream has been the king of the mid-range meta for quite some time.

The card Scream is incredibly powerful. It’s got an insane Win and Cube Rate to this day, with multiple cards that support it for some powerful combinations. Polaris and Stegron give you a mini-Clog package. Sam Wilson captain America and Kraven give you a little power scaling engine. Hydra Bob and Miles Morales are great points for one energy that can fill out your curve. And now, Agamotto.

The appeal of Agamotto is Winds of Watoomb, which is a nine power play if you have Scream out. The Bolts of Balthakk are not to be discounted, though, as it lets you play essentially every 2-Cost in the deck or pull off a combo with Stegron and Polaris to clog your opponent. Images of Ikonn gives you an unbeatably huge lane, and Agamotto himself gives you a Magneto sized threat for one energy less than the Master of Magnetism.

Scream is going to remain at the top until something major changes in Marvel Snap.

Technically, Hela should be here. It’s being considered the scourge of the meta and definitely the poster child for the “combo, big card” meta. Its Win Rate is huge, but I need a little break from talking about Scream, so let’s instead discuss the previous also-ran that Hela pushed to extreme prominence (don’t worry, I’ll still talk about Hela just a few more decks down).

Mister Negative puts up more power than anything, and suddenly it’s more successful than ever. The release of Gorr, another lane winner like Iron Man as well as another card to be copied with Mystique (all with no extra work), really pushed Negative to the top. Luckily for the meta, Mobius M. Mobius soon became a meta staple for a bit to keep the Negative decks in check. Well, Mobius does nothing against Hela, so now Mister Negative is back and near the top of the meta. If you see it, run!

I’m not sure if this version from SMLZ is better or worse than the HuskyPuppies version, but this one has Eson and I think that’s pretty damn cool.

The key cards are usually Electro and then either Blink or War Machine for The Infinaut. If either of those happen, you’re incredibly far ahead with this powerful list. Redwing offers a really cool backup plan for cheating out your big cards, but having access to the Move cards also lets you surprise reposition big cards in really cool ways.

Eson adds an extra cheat. He doesn’t have a ton of targets here—just Valentina and Iron Patriot cards—but that can easily be enough to steal a victory since he’ll end up being around a 20 Power play. This is like mid-range Hela with (a lot) more work.

4. Cougarrr Agamotto Black Knight

Cougarrr’s list here is absolutely great, combining the power of cheap Ebony Blades and Valentina cards (thanks to Quinjet) with Frigga to copy them and Eson to cheat them into play. Between Valentina and Iron Patriot, the power output here is totally unpredictable, and this deck adds Hulkling to the fun to really muck up your opponent’s planning.

Agamotto‘s purpose here is pretty simple: Bolts of Balthakk is a huge extra ramp tool to get out big cards early or play an Ebony Blade / Valentina card with Frigga right away. He’s also just a really big 5-Cost that can become an Ebony Blade himself, and all the small cards can become one of the big ones with the Images of Ikonn.

This is sort of another representative of Agamotto in stuff. Eson is really important to this deck. Agamotto is here because, despite the above reasoning, he makes decks better. There’s a lot of good mid-range shells that are just improved from adding this new Season Pass card—which might seem problematic, except a lot of the same was true about Galacta, Iron Patriot, and Sam Wilson captain America.

Where art thou Killmonger!?

Without the presence of this deck’s natural predator, Zoo is just a lot of points. It has sort of taken Surtur‘s place in the meta as the “play cards, get points” deck. There’s not a lot to this one. You play the best card you have on curve without clogging yourself, scale your cards, get a cheap or free Mockingbird, and slam it for big points with either Shang-Chi or Gilgamesh.

This puts up crazy points, no fuss, no muss. Killmonger will be back with Firehair in two weeks, but until then, enjoy this updated Series 1 beast.

I’ve put it off as long as I can… it’s Hela time. So, the OTA made Skaar a [7/12], and within like two hours Parry Manilow, KM Best, Ika, and I all created the exact same 12-card Hela list. Since then, this deck has had the best Win Rate on the way to Infinite as well as in Infinite, with a crazy Cube Rate to boot. Lovely.

The power of Hela lies in the consistency of your discards. If you play intelligently, there’s almost no chance for Hela to be discarded. The discard enablers also all have decent power for their cost, so you don’t really fall behind on tempo. If you can get even just The Infinaut and Black Cat discarded, that’s a 39 Power final turn.

I fully expect Hela to be adjusted in the coming OTA, but for now it’s the biggest and best deck.

7. Clog

Hela is good, so Clog is back. Hela needs space to bring its cards back, and Clog simply says No. It’s really that simple. We’ve seen Clog Victoria Hand be successful since Honifer created the archetype back in January, but the newer version leans way more heavily into the Clog aspect in order to really beat up on Hela and Mister Negative.

This would be the best deck in the game if not for Agamotto, especially with next to no Killmonger around. The problem is that Images of Ikonn can really mess up the Clog plan. Turning a nearly clogged lane into a bunch of big stuff is devastating for this deck.

Still, it’s a major predator to basically any other deck, so here it is.

This shell from Ika in early February re-emerged recently as a great meta answer. The Ongoing synergies, when not disrupted, can match nearly any deck in power, and there’s enough small ball here to compete on the mid-range axis too.

Anti-Venom is absolutely sick here; Ongoing cards get their ability no matter what, so they end up being almost buffed by being played as a [4/7] instead of their base stats. They can also just have their power back, too, since this deck manages to fit in Luke Cage (which also allows it to hard counter Afflict decks).

The real combo here is Moonstone pairing crazily well with Mystique to copy Iron Man and win a lane. Moonstone on Ravonna Renslayer makes that combo so cheap that you can almost auto-Snap it. If the opponent can’t disrupt you, you can do that in addition to all your other combos and just dominate the game.

The Cook is an old deck created by Derek and Barzy, but it had disappeared from the meta for several seasons. Chamo brought it back, but his version was swept away by the combo meta. But then Crimeafoot realized Ghost was the answer!

This deck plays a lot of cards for a lot of power in unpredictable places. The key to this is Mysterio, Mockingbird, and Sasquatch. Mysterio and one other card on Turn 5 drops Mockingbird‘s cost to two (with Sam Wilson) and Sasquatch‘s cost to two. That’s 19 points and still leftover energy for another card… but you can do more! Mysterio hit by Gwenpool is like a miniature Doctor Doom and brings more surprise points. If you have any of Kate Bishop‘s arrows out, Mockingbird can go to one or zero, and Sasquatch can be a 1-Cost if you play another 2-Cost + 1-Cost with Mysterio (Kate‘s Arrows, Kitty Pryde).

Ghost comes in here as an enabler for Shang-Chi and Enchantress. You can still drop crazy power this way, but now you can also erase what your opponent is trying to accomplish!

10. FaThorNewman Affliction

Some parts of the meta are swamped with Luke Cage, but in others he rarely appears. If you’re in a Luke free zone, this deck from FaThorNewman feels pretty close to unbeatable.

The key card here is actually Zabu because the 4-Cost cards in this list play for well above rate. Against most decks, Man-Thing plays for around a [4/11] in power and can go up to a [4/15]. That’s gigantic and similar in power to the new card Laufey, who can be a [4/13] against an opponent’s full lane. Anti-Venom seems weaker as a [4/7], but if you have Luke the power he grabs for free can be added to his since you couldn’t otherwise play the card, which makes him anywhere from a [4/9] (Zabu hit) to a [4/20]+ (any 4-drops or Ajax). Malekith not only adds consistency, but he also plays for between a [4/8] (Zabu) to a [4/17] (fully powered Diamondback).

There are other cheap cards that play huge, too. U.S. Agent as a [2/9] is absurd, and Diamondback is easily a [3/11]. Meanwhile, Ajax can break 20 points for five energy. Affliction seems like this big synergy strategy, but what it really does is create massive power for low cost.

And that, my friends, is the top 10 decks in Marvel Snap! See you Monday here or tomorrow for two videos on the YouTube!
