Snap Judgments Deck of the Day: Control is Back!

Good morning all! I’m back at Marvel Snap Zone with a deck of the day: a top deck for you to try out! My aim for this article is to get you in and out quickly and give you something new to play every day along with the tools to do well with it. Check out the video for a verbal explanation of this and three other new decks.

Safetyblade has been absolutely on fire lately, floating around the top 10 for the past several seasons and finding basically every good Invisible Woman First Steps or Activate deck. His big innovation that made the decks the best is to make them more controlling by using Stardust and Mobius M Mobius with Juggernaut and the rest of the package, so it should be no rurpise that with a new activate card, he’s back to another old favorite – control Cannonball.

Perhaps you remember the Slayerblade archetype from two summers ago – Cannonball and Professor X became a meta force, one that lead to a fairly drastic change to Professor X. That deck was Safety’s, and here he returns to the well with a Cannonball/Mercury package.

Much of the meta at the moment is sort of low-power mid-range, so Danger is incredibly strong. Killing a Thena or Invisible Woman First Steps before they get going is awesome. Cards like Human Torch really hate to have -3 power removed before they start their combo, so Clea suddenly has a home. Spider-Ham disrupts all the combo decks, and Echo snipes are just pure cruelty. Add in a Wiccan to tie the room together, and we have the return of a truly powerful control deck.

This is fairly likely to spread in popularity and be iterated on for quite awhile.

1. Turn 1: Clea > Ham > Echo… you’ll drop Elektra
2. Turn 2: Merlin if no 3 > Herbie > Mercury
3. Turn 3: Jocasta if Herbie, Marvel Boy if Clea… 2+1 is fine
4. Turn 4: Wiccan > Danger
5. Turn 5: Jocasta/Marvel Boy+2 (Merc)
6. Turn 6: Cannonball +1
