Good morning all! I’m back at Marvel Snap Zone with a deck of the day: a top deck for you to try out! My aim for this article is to get you in and out quickly and give you something new to play every day along with the tools to do well with it. Check out the video for a verbal explanation of this and three other new decks.
Decks with Merlin
Lately, they’ve done an amazing job of making Season Pass cards feel insane, but be balanced in play. Esme Cuckoo, Agamotto, and original Captain Carter all seemed like some of the best cards in the game at first glance, but all landed at different power levels. Esme is good in very specific decks, but not great overall, Agamotto is a good, but replacement level card, and Captain Carter needed a buff to be one of the best cards in one of the best decks… but prior, Sam Wilson and Iron Patriot were thought to be strong on release and proved to be meta defining after.
It’s impossible, as of this writing, to know for sure where Merlin will land, but the game is often defined by powerful two cost cards, and Merlin certainly seems to be one of those. He puts a spell into hand each turn, and each one of those seems incredibly useful. The location change spell turns him into a more versatile Nocturne, a card that was once the best in Snap. The ramp one is energy neutral, but gives explosive turns and gets rid of useless On Reveals or Activates that have already triggered, and the Sersi card is an amazing way to take care of Void or Clog.
There’s so many synergies here. Thena loves repeated 1-Cost cards to trigger her. Angela and Hope Summers are thrilled with cheap triggers that don’t take up a spot. Void and Hood are happy to have another use. Werewolf by Night and other bounce cards are thrilled to have cheap ones that don’t take up space, and this could be a Black Swan revival for that. Collector and Kahhori want cards in your hand.
I think this card is more Sam Wilson than Esme Cuckoo.
Decks with Morgan le Fay
Mogan reads like she should be a new discard or destroy card, but she doesn’t fit into the current archetypes of either. Discard is largely not hitting enough random cards nor does it really have time to play Morgan, who herself is likely to be discarded in the proccess of trying to combo. Destroy, meanwhile, is built on getting rid of Deadpool, X-23, and Venom multiple times, and Morgan doesn’t interact with those.
So, this is a new archetype card, which makes it incredibly difficult to evaluate. Our own Den has long tried to make bounce destroy work, and this could be the card that does that, or we could get a new form of discard or destroy cook where we get rid of cards only to replay them at +3 power and then drop a big Death, Mockingbird, or Sasquatch.
It’s hard to know if either of these will be good, but the new archetype builders this year have been largely successful – Redwing, Hydra Stomper, Bullseye, Agamotto, and Victoria Hand have been successful with only Firehair and Infinity Ultron as misses (and neither is bad, just undersupported). I’d bet on Morgan being quite powerful.
This does not seem good right now. It’s a 1-2, but given the number of skills in the game, it’ll rarely get to be more than a 1-6. That’s not bad passively, but the decks it wants have other 1s that do more than power, and thus this seems unlikely to find an immediate home. However, eventually, we’ll get an abundance of skills, and at that point, Scratch is worth remembering… or they could make him an Ongoing?
A ramp into 5 that you don’t have to play off curve, but also cannot play off curve. This seems like an easy fit in any deck that wants to ramp to 5 for whatever reason – Sera, Infinity Ultron, Black Bolt… It’s not flashy, but it has a simple job that it should be effective at accomplishing.

JD Macdonaldinho messaged me with this deck he had a crazy win rate with after the Annihilus buff, and I mentioned I might save it for Tuesday since it seemed great with Merlin. He excitedly pointed out all the fun stuff Merlin could do here, and this will be the deck I start with tonight on Stream.
This deck is built around two axes. The first is just building power with the move package. Between Sam Wilson, Batroc, Hydra Stomper, and Silk, you get end-game power from early game plays.
The other package is the one Merlin benefits. You want to leave your opponent unable to stop the Void. There are now, with Merlin, four ways to be unpredictable with the Void. First Madame Web, a card that benefits Hydra Stomper, makes where the Void will go unpredictable. Next, of course, Annihilus sends it over or destroys it. Spider-Man + Viper in the lane you want to send the Void guarantees the card is sent over pending a Cosmo or entirely full board. And now Merlin turns it into a random 5 drop.
Combining power and disruption, this deck seems awesome!

Turn by Turn
- Turn 1: Batroc or Hood pending hand
- Turn 2: Merlin > Sam > Web right
- Turn 3: a 2 > Stomper usually
- Turn 4: Sentry > 2+2
- Turn 5: If Sentry, move Void w/ Web and Anni or Viper/Spidey or Anni.. If not Sentry, move cards.
- Turn 6: Anni and 1 or Stomper, Demon combos.
