Sleeper Decks of the Week – More Blob, Return of the ‘Hawk, and Tribunal Time!

Check out the best Marvel Snap decks in this column, before they become meta! There are a lot of awesome decks waiting to be discovered, to take your opponent's Cubes by surprise!

Hello everyone and welcome to Sleeper Decks of the Week! I’m Glazer of Snap Judgments: The Official Marvel Snap Zone Podcast, and in this article, I’m going to take you through all of my favorite Sleeper Decks this week. In addition to the podcast (this week’s episode has our hottest Marvel Snap Takes with LilRobittusin and Prashaun!), I do my own daily videos where I scour the darkest corners of the net (ahem Twitter and the various Marvel Snap sites) to find the best decks in Marvel Snap before the meta notices.

Remember: Each deck title will take you to a video explanation of the deck, so don’t be shy – check them out!

Blob is Still Great

Blob was released in Marvel Snap last week, and its play patterns continued to develop this week. This is arguably the best 6-Cost card in Snap!

Tobi Blob Thanos Galactus

Please insert deck uuid. click the edit button for this block.

Deck Thoughts:

Tobi is a Vietnamese streamer and a great friend of our show. His brew is my current favorite version of Thanos Destroy.

X-23 in this works as the ramp that Psylocke is in more control-oriented versions, but, because destroying it often grants power, there’s still enough Tempo that the Professor X nerf isn’t terrible. The kill here also enables a cheaper Death; if Blob wasn’t hard enough to counter, Blob + Death is often completely OP.

Galactus is here and not used often – but when it is, it’s often worth eight cubes. A Galactus with Alioth or Blob to follow is basically a surefire win, especially as X-23 pops into that lane for just a bit of extra power.

X-23 here can be Psylocke, but this is built for Blob, Galactus, and Thanos. You used to be able to replace Jeff the Baby Land Shark in these decks, but, with Professor X nerfed, that’s no longer the case.

Deck Thoughts:

Sometimes, it pays to just be greedy. This deck from the Marvel Snap Zone discord is truly something to behold.

This one is entirely built around Blob. If Blob comes out, you can copy it with Taskmaster or spread its power everywhere with The Living Tribunal. There’s enough power to compete otherwise, too, thanks to Iron Man and TLT, but that’s generally far more challenging to win with. This one’s bread and butter is an insanely huge Blob and what you can do with it.

Blob and Tribunal are must-haves, as is Thanos. The rest are lower Series cards.

Deck Thoughts:

Instead of making the biggest Blob, a viewer named Bryan Aguiar takes away the opponent’s plays with tech cards like Shang-Chi, Shadow King, and Enchantress. This deck also uses Typhoid Mary, Lizard, and Red Skull, three cards on your side that you’re happy to get rid of the Ongoing on, so Enchantress pulls double duty here. Zero also helps with those cards, and the early package here just outputs a lot of stats.

Those plays can clear one lane, and then another is free to be cleared by Blob since it is generally the biggest card in the game and more than capable of taking a lane alone. Invisible Woman can protect that Blob or ensure a priority loss for your tech cards.

Blob and Thanos are, as always, a requirement here.

Deck Thoughts:

Eva is basically always near the top of the leaderboard and is one of the most creative players and deck builders in the game.

This deck is reasonably similar to the last one, but, where that one used the Red Skull core, this one utilizes the more flexible Silky-Smooth base for its stats along with similar tech cards and the Blob finisher. Also, if you missed it, this one doesn’t bother with Thanos.

Blob isn’t the key here; instead, it’s the power of that early Move package that puts it ahead. When combined with some tech cards and Legion, it just steals cubes in a lot of matches. Building power on a Kraven with Silk, Jeff the Baby Land Shark, Spider-Man, Nightcrawler, and Aero is super strong, and all of those cards are really well-statted on top of that.

So, why Blob? Well, why turn down a [6/15](ish) that can take over a lane as a surprise? I think you need Blob, Jeff, and Silk for the best version of this. Vision can replace Legion, and you can probably fit Shadow King in, too.

Tribunal Is a Meta Card!?

We already saw The Living Tribunal once with Blob above, but two more players have made sick, meta-defining decks with the card.

Deck Thoughts:

SafetyBlade is our resident genius deck builder here at MarvelSnapZone, and here he has… the best deck Howard the Duck has ever been in.

The beauty of this deck is its multiple ways to win. You can make a Ms. Marvel + Mystique + Onslaught pie, or you can go with The Living Tribunal, Onslaught, and Iron Man. Either case puts a shocking amount of power on the board for an opponent to get through.

Howard isn’t necessary – Echo or even Iceman can replace it – but it does add certainty to your game plan with Jubilee and Iron Lad. Those cards, along with Magik, add some consistency that the deck needs. If the opponent can’t counter Limbo or Ongoing abilities, they’re in deep trouble.

Ravonna Renslayer, Tribunal, and Zabu are needed. Ms. Marvel can be Super-Skrull, and Iron Lad can be Skrull or Crystal.

Deck Thoughts:

Hela Enjoyer is another top-ranked player, #10 in post-Infinite as of writing, and here he has an exceptional deck… that doesn’t actually play Hela. KM Best also just shared this one, so make sure you know it because I’m sure you’ll be seeing it around.

This deck is fairly similar to the last. The biggest change is the different play patterns that Wave invites. Wave lets you get lots out early, but of particular interest are Sera and Onslaught. Two turns of Sera or Sera on Onslaught;s lane for a -2 to everything is backbreaking and easily one of the strongest things that can be done in Marvel Snap.

This is expensive and a bit fragile. I think every card is needed except maybe Iron Lad. Super-Skrull would be very strong in that spot.

Bounce and Good Stuff Add Darkhawk Again

Darkhawk went from a meta staple to just… gone with the release of Blob. Well, the decks that fit Darkhawk now just run Leech and carry on apace!

Deck Thoughts:

Ika built this monster of a deck, and the repercussions of re-adding Leech to the meta are still reverberating through the game.

This deck is simple – we all know the Darkhawk package of cards like Korg, Black Widow, and Zabu. We all know how well it fits in other powerful cards like Ms. Marvel, Iron Lad, and Doctor Doom, and for so very long it ran tech cards like Shang-Chi and Shadow King easily. Well, a new tech card absolutely destroys BlobLeech. Leech means that Blob can’t kill your Darkhawk on Turn 6 without extreme luck, which keeps the meta-defining Darkhawk in the game.

Many have said that this deck doesn’t answer Blob on Turn 5… and it doesn’t (for Darkhawk anyway). But with Shang-Chi and Shadow King in the deck, Blob on Turn 5 is just a huge target. I’ve been playing this deck for most of the week and it has very few bad matches.

You need Darkhawk and Zabu. You need Ms. Marvel. Iron Lad can be Enchantress or Super-Skrull.

Deck Thoughts:

The Darkhawk Bounce created by Teledadman had disappeared from the game, but it has proven resilient to recent nerfs. This one is pretty simple: play disruptive cards and bounce them. When you do so, you move Werewolf By Night and get access to a big Darkhawk. On Turn 5 you play Leech and proceed to win the game.

The deck should probably change a bit since the nerfs to Black Widow and Werewolf By Night. The former just leaves the deck and becomes Rockslide. At that point, Shang-Chi likely becomes Zabu for added flexibility. The deck then fundamentally changes a bit; you often choose whether to go the big Darkhawk route or all in on Werewolf and Demons. Either way, it still works.

Werewolf is needed here, but the 1s are all interchangeable with any old good 1-cost card. Darkhawk is also a must-have for this version, but if you don’t have him, see below.

Deck Thoughts:

Quinee is secretly one of the top 5 deck builders in the game, at worst. If Thanos has you down, this is the deck to play. You can use Hazmat to destroy Stones and Professor X plays, as well as to make The Hood better with Annihilus. You also get to throw them a Spider-Ham and Forge with Annihilus, which leaves plenty of power and board space for your Werewolf By Night on the last turn while clogging the opponent.

Like the last deck, you may want Zabu thanks to Werewolf’s cost change. Beyond that, you do need Werewolf and Annihilus for this. Nico Minoru and Spider-Ham can be any good one. I’d start with Iceman and Nightcrawler, but, again, one could be the spot for Zabu.

Deck Thoughts:

Our own LaurenWhatevs has figured out a secret brilliant use for Aero! If you can gain priority going into Turn 5, Aero pulls the last card played on Turn 4. That means if Storm was played, that lane can be won with minimal further investment – especially if that Storm is pumped by Ms. Marvel. That should lead to priority going into Turn 6, too, which means Alioth is an auto-win. That’s a recipe for a ton of cubes.

Most of the rest of the deck is about grabbing priority. You have Medusa and Mister Fantastic for that. Iron Lad helps with consistency, especially with Howard the Duck in the deck, and Nebula can usually solo a Flooded location. Doctor Doom helps those last turns that you need to go wide, and Gamora is the cheapest and safest way to go tall.

You do need Ms. Marvel and Alioth for this one, but Iron Lad can be any good tech card. Jeff the Baby Land Shark can be Nightcrawler, and Nebula is best as something like Rocket Raccoon (or Nightcrawler). Howard is replaceable by any of the cheaper cards here, too. Silk would be great if you happen to have it.

Deck Thoughts:

Our friend GamingwithFlashX is back with another Ronan the Accuser take, and this one is made far better by the buffs to Ronan and Maximus.

Ronan is now always two power more than before, and, while Maximus has one less power, its utility as a 2-Cost cannot be overstated. My favorite way to use it is on the last turn with both Master Mold and Jeff the Baby Land Shark. Heck, you could replace Jeff with Shadow King and really go to town. You can also copy the new Ronan with Mystique or go wide with Doctor Doom and Ms. Marvel. Storm benefits both of those strategies by getting a buff from the go-wide cards while limiting play space (thus keeping more cards in hand).

Most of the cards around this core are changeable: Spider-Ham for Iceman, Nebula for Sunspot or Nightcrawler, etc. Jeff could be Nightcrawler, Mister Fantastic, or Shadow King. Iron Lad could be any good tech card. Master Mold is fairly irreplaceable, but the card is series dropping in a couple of weeks.
