Sleeper Decks of the Week – The Patch Made Meta Decks + Last of Darkhawk!

Check out the best Marvel Snap decks in this column, before they become meta! There are a lot of awesome decks waiting to be discovered, to take your opponent's Cubes by surprise!

Hello everyone and welcome to Sleeper Decks of the Week! I’m Glazer of Snap Judgments: The Official Marvel Snap Zone Podcast, and in this article, I’m going to take you through all of my favorite Sleeper Decks this week. In addition to the podcast (this week’s episode goes over the New Season with Homeboy Maxwell and TeamCounterGaming!), I do my own daily videos where I scour the darkest corners of the net (ahem Twitter and the various Marvel Snap sites) to find the best decks in Marvel Snap before the meta notices.

Remember: Each deck title will take you to a video explanation of the deck, so don’t be shy – check them out!

Darkhawk

Darkhawk has been a top card for a year – essentially since the release of Zabu – and this week might be the last one for the meta staple with the release of the Blob this coming Tuesday. At least Darkhawk is going out with a bang, as two of our best decks feature him.

Deck Thoughts:

Our own Den comes in with an absolutely sick take on Darkhawk. A couple of weeks back, he was working on a Darkhawk and Moon Girl shell, and this week it all came together thanks to adding Ravonna Renslayer and Iron Man. Ravonna’s buff to 3 gives her enough power to make a difference, while Iron Man is a card that lets you go over anything.

Quinjet with Moon Girl often feels like cheating, especially when combined with Zabu for Ms. Marvel. Ravonna feels the same with Mystique and Iron Man. And Darkhawk ties it together, being huge and working with both!

You’ll need Darkhawk and Zabu here. Ravonna is pretty important, too. Iron Lad can be Shadow King. If you don’t have Ms. Marvel, you can try Doctor Doom.

Deck Thoughts:

Dera is another of the best players in the world, and he took Darkhawk to high Infinite and Infinity Conquest dominance.

This deck chooses to go more all-in on the Darkhawk, as Absorbing Man can copy a Rockslide, Korg, or Black Widow or go behind Invisible Woman to become a second Doctor Doom. Invisible Woman also offers protection for your big ongoing cards of Ms. Marvel and Darkhawk while simultaneously giving you an optimal way to make sure Shadow King goes off last. This deck just wins at a high rate.

You need the high series cards here, although Iron Lad can be Jubilee and you can try Super Skrull for Ms. Marvel.

Black Knight

Black Knight’s Ebony Blade was buffed in the latest patch to one of the best cards in the game. It’s wholly immune to Shang-Chi, Shadow King, Valkyrie, and a ton of other cards and locations that previously gave it trouble. As such, it’s found its way into several meta decks!

Deck Thoughts:

EvaZord is a Brasilian Top 10 ranked player who always has interesting spice in his brews.

In this case, he combines the Black Knight package of Infinaut with Lady Sif and Blade with the Annihilus package of Sentry and the Hood. All of these cards in combination give multiple crazy strong win conditions, so the rest of the deck wants o lock the win up or enable power plays, as Shadow King, Mobius, and Shang-Chi stomp an opponent while Zabu allow you to go heave on 4-drops.

The deck needs Black Knight and Zabu, but without Annihilus, it can run Taskmaster, Red Skull, and Shuri as a package in place of Sentry and the Hood. At that point, Armor is better than Shang-Chi or Shadow King, probably.

Deck Thoughts:

W is the originator of Doom Wave, one flavor of Thanos Control (the Pyslocke builds), and last season’s Ms. Marvel Guardians build. When W makes a deck, it slaps.

Here he combines Black Knight with the powerful Magik She-Hulk package. This one can cheat out Infinaut with Lady Sif and Ghost Rider or use Magik and pass turn 5 to just play the giant card and She-Hulk. Ms. Marvel operates as a cheaper Doctor Doom here while Abomination is a backup plan to your Infinaut. Armor protects, while Sunspot grows unexpectedly large. And, of course, the Shard gives you an extremely powerful option the opponent can’t stop.

Jeff the Baby Landshark is filler here. Nebula, Professor X, Psylocke, and plenty of other cards could replace him. You can put Doctor Doom in for Ms. Marvel, but the deck will really suffer. Black Knight is one of a kind.

Deck Thoughts:

Robert has been kicking butt with Black Knight before it was cool.

Robert added a mountain of Tips to the comments on my video about his deck, and he discusses this beauty better than I can, rather than poorly reproducing them here, I’m going to urge you to go give them a read on the video. This is his baby and you deserve his words.

Black Knight is the only high-series card here. I’d probably cut America Chavez here for something like Crystal.

Sebastian Shaw Has Arrived!

Our new Season Pass card Sebastian Shaw isn’t a brand new deck like Loki, nor is he a back-breaking power spike like Ms. Marvel or (pre-nerf) Elsa Bloodstone. Still, he’s generally good and truly great in Silver Surfer decks.

Deck Thoughts:

Den’s Surfer has a fantastic win-rate and is one of the most consistent decks in the game.

The trick here is that not only does Shaw benefit from all the buffs in the deck, but Brood and Daken also really love amplifying the amount they gain. If the Brood is buffed, the Broodlings carry that extra power, while Daken‘s buffs are doubled when the Muramasa Shard is killed by Killmonger or discarded by Colleen Wing. Absorbing Man can make more Broodlings or another Shard while also being a copy for everything from Forge to Silver Surfer. The buffs are all over and this deck can challenge multiple lanes!

Sebastian Shaw is a must. While Daken is good, he can be Polaris, which also allows Colleen to be Goose or Okoye.

Deck Thoughts:

When I found this deck it had an 80% win rate, and I was blown away. As the sample grew, the win rate plummeted all the way down to 49%, so your mileage may vary about how good this deck is. I’m personally maintaining a 57% win rate with it.

This deck’s goal is simple – make a big Deadpool and Shaw then Venom them. Once you do that, you can Taskmaster or Arnim Zola the big card to win the game. The power output is consistently top of the meta huge. The problem is that big cards are in the meta, and so are Shadow King and Shang-Chi. This dies to either or both of those meta staples.

You need Sebastian Shaw.

Deck Thoughts:

Wong Shaw is proving to be a meta factor. On Reveal decks have been going up in win rate and popularity since the White Tiger buff and it appears that Shaw is giving this sleeper deck yet another push.

The win rate is still usually Wong into Black Panther and Arnim Zola or Wong into White Tiger and Odin, but now Sebastian Shaw and Brood give another gameplan. These cards can be pumped with Forge and then again with Ironheart. An Odin at that point sends Shaw or Brood through the roof.

Iron Lad is a backup plan here that can pretty easily be Absorbing Man, Nakia, or Silver Surfer. Obviously, you need Shaw for this version.

The Phoenix Force

The Phoenix Force bug that prevented Multiple Man‘s duplicates from moving on their own now works, and so Phoenix is fantastic.

Deck Thoughts:

Jeeet reached #2 in the world with this deck last Season and it’s only gotten better since then.

The Phoenix gameplan is obvious – kill Multiple Man and move Phoenix Force around until your opponent is dead meat. You can also win by making a huge Deadpool, too. Deadpool likes all the Destroy cards and Hulkbuster just as much as Phoenix does and copying it with Taskmaster wins games.

America Chavez should be removed from this for Deathlok, Alioth, or Iron Lad. Jeeet went with Alioth, but I like Deathlok to ensure I have an extra kill. The Phoenix Force is just needed. Nico Minoru is phenomenal here and, without her, make sure you have Deathlok. If you need another sub, it’d probably be Iron Fist or Heimdall.

You know the drill – turn by turn in the link above.

Deck Thoughts:

Safetyblade is Marvel Snap Zone’s own secret genius deck builder.

His Phoenix Force here is elegant and effective. He uses the same general Multiple Man combo as before, but also has The Human Torch as a backup plan – a card that can grow huge when combined with the Phoenix Force. Another backup plan here is Shuri into Nimrod. With that combination, it’s easy to use the destroy cards here for Phoenix to put 24 power across two lanes. This deck makes huge threats!

Phoenix is needed. Nimrod can be Red Skull, but then Taskmaster needs to replace Arnim Zola. Deathlok is, again, a swing spot, though one I think is important.
