Quantum Realm Featured Location Guide: Strategy, Best Cards and Decks
Table of Contents
This week’s Marvel Snap Featured Location is Quantum Realm: After you play a card here, set its base Power to 2. This is a brand new location for Marvel Snap’s February 2023 Into the Quantum Realm Season, now added to the Location pool. For the next 48 hours, it will show up 40% more frequently in games. Let’s find out what the best strategies, cards, and decks are, with updated decks for the latest patch!
Update: Previously, Featured Locations lasted for 48 hours but it appears the duration has been reduced to 24 hours. We will confirm this for future Featured Locations as we know more.

What is the Quantum Realm?

The Quantum Realm, originally known as the Microverse, is a subatomic dimension home to a variety of alien civilizations and species. Over the years, the Microverse became a significant part of the Marvel Comics mythology with characters such as the Micronauts and Ant Man (Hank Pym) frequently traveling to and from the realm. It’s like going down a rabbit hole, except instead of Wonderland, you find yourself in a subatomic dimension filled with microscopic aliens and subatomic particles.
Strategy
The location changes the base power of your cards to 2 when played; this limits what level of power your cards can have on this location. We have two obvious ways of using the location: to buff the power of our cards to 2, or to reduce the power of our cards to 2. Both could be used in interesting ways to find an edge during the location’s featured status.

The wording states “after you play a card here”, so cards pulled or placed onto the location by other means will not be impacted. Additionally, as it changes the base power of cards, Ongoing effects will not be impacted. Lockjaw, combined with either Thanos or Thor, could use this location effectively. Playing Lockjaw on the location will pull cards larger than 2 power while potentially buffing the power of your cycle cards. Then, once you redraw them, they will be 2 power and can be played in other locations for more impact.

Mister Negative is another archetype that could benefit greatly from the Quantum Realm. Mister Negative can’t hit cards in your hand, which is why the introduction of Bast helped give the deck a fighting chance when it missed on its titular card. With this new Featured Location, cards that start in your hand with 0 or 1 power can become significantly improved without the help of Mister Negative. Playing an Iron Man is usually never bad, but it gets even better when it adds 2 power to a lane instead of 0.

As an On Play location, cards that transform or move the location are an option to avoid it altogether. Decks that plan to use the location to their advantage could have their entire game plan destroyed by a well-timed Quake, Scarlet Witch, or Storm. Although unpopular, forcing your opponent to play on the wrong lane with Quake can easily net you some cubes during the Quantum Realm‘s time as a featured location.
Finally, Cerebro 2 is another option as we can guarantee cards to end up at 2 power. The added value of this effect for the archetype looks small since the decks are already built to have 2 power cards everywhere, but the Quantum Realm could allow Cerebro 2 decks to try something new. Any card we play on the location is set to 2 power, which means that we can include basically any card we want in our deck (as long as we play cards over 2 power on the Featured Location).
Imagine a world where a Cerebro deck plays Aero, Magneto, Moon Girl, Onslaught, or Sera; the list goes on and on! Of course, the glaring flaw in this plan is that your deck will only work 40% of the time. If, however, you’re willing to sacrifice a few cubes for a bit of fun, I think a modified Cerebro 2 deck might be very fun.
Card and Deck Ideas
The best versions of these lists are starting to be built with Series 4 and 5 cards. Where they are not the required for the strategy I will include a note on what cards to swap in.
Lockjaw Thanos
As it is the most popular deck in the meta, this list tries to break symmetry in the mirror by using Super Skrull. Another approach to attacking the mirror is including Darkhawk, which is worth exploring but tends to fall flat in other match ups without support cards such as Korg and Rockslide.
The general strategy for this deck is simple: play Lockjaw on the location, follow it up with the Infinity Stones, and pull big cards that your opponent cannot match. The deck often wins the lane that Lockjaw is played in, and the Quantum Realm guarantees that further.
A more traditional build of Lockjaw that includes Thor will be slightly more limited than the Thanos version. We’ll have to limit our cycle cards, but playing Lockjaw on the location should still prove effective and allow you to consistently win the lane while using the effects to contest the other ones.
Mister Negative
Mister Negative decks play cards with little to no power in order to benefit the most from getting negatived. These cards lose a ton of value when you miss on Mister Negative, but the Quantum Realm helps mitigate that loss in the games where it shows up. Although it only adds 2 power, having a second Bast effect will likely make the deck more consistent and have fewer bad games.
Quake
A possible sleeper hit during the hot location, this deck focuses on playing Quake and other location control tools to force opponents into plays they didn’t intend to make. Timed correctly, Quake may force your opponent to misplay into the location and turn their huge Red Skulls or She-Hulks into 2 power cards. If nothing else, playing this deck will make for some memorable moments and frustrated opponents.
What You Should Play
If you own Thanos, it’s hard to recommend any deck other than Lockjaw Thanos into this location. You can limit the downsides of the Quantum Realm while playing a deck that remains strong when the location doesn’t show up. If you’re missing Thanos, start by trying the traditional Lockjaw list instead.
Series 1
KaZoo decks often play many cards at or below 2 power, which makes them the perfect choice for players in Series 1 during this featured location.
Series 2
One Series 2 card synergizes well with the featured location – Jubilee. We can combine her with a Series 2 Control shell using the underrated combination of Storm and Jessica Jones, and throw in Vision for good measure. This should allow us to push big power onto the Quantum Realm while locking down or countering the other lanes.
Closing Thoughts
Remember, at the time of writing these decks are untested. These are theorycraft ideas to get you going, and I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with for Quantum Realm.
