Snap Judgments Deck of the Day: Secret 80% Win Rate Deck

Good morning all! I’m back at Marvel Snap Zone with a deck of the day: a top deck for you to try out! My aim for this article is to get you in and out quickly and give you something new to play every day along with the tools to do well with it. If you want three more new decks today, check out this video!

Starbrand isn’t in the deck I’m talking about today, but he’s in two decks in the above video and he’s new, so I figured you may want my impression.

He’s fine. He doesn’t seem great, but I think a lot of that is because Hela decks are all over the place, and they do a lot of what Starbrand wants to do but better. If Hela is nerfed in Thursday’s OTA, we’ll need to reassess.

Yesterday on Stream, I played a ton of Starbrand decks and found him overall pretty good. He didn’t feel like he broke anything (except for maybe the Red Skull deck from yesterday, with which I went 7-3 with). He feels entirely different when you can play Sauron before him, and he’ll likely create a new deck that has a place in the meta due to that. But, as far as viability beyond that, stay tuned.

Let’s talk about another old deck (Annihilus) that a different new card (Agamotto) brought back.

This deck is from our brilliant friend Ika, who you can find here.

Annihilus somewhere along the way became thought of as a Clog card. I guess that’s not a huge surprise; for quite a while now, clog has been one of the better decks in Marvel Snap and clog, well, clog has not. It’s worth remembering a time, however, when Annihilus with a small package of just the The Hood and Sentry were atop the Marvel Snap meta.

From around January to April of 2024, Annihilus was one of Snap’s best cards. His power is pretty simple. The Hood is -3 and Sentry creates a -9. That means playing Annihilus creates a [5/19] in stats while also limiting your opponent. Yes, opponents can clog that location, but doing so opens them up to being beat in other ways because that static power is often very beatable. Still, as players got used to it and after numerous nerfs, the package got worse.

Well, Agamotto brings it back and makes it even sillier. The spell Bolts of Balthakk on Turn 4 or 5 allows for an Annihilus and Sentry play at once—incredibly powerful—with a backup plan of Sersi. Against a lot of meta decks playing a few big cards, you can do this without the ramp, but the ramp gives you a pretty clear Snap condition. Sersi and Sentry is a severely underrated duo, too. A [4/9] from Sentry is good stats, but with Sersi you’re also getting a free 5-Cost card out of the deal. That’s a huge energy swing over the course of the game, if a bit high variance.

There is a small clog package here. Green Goblin can encourage an opponent to avoid a lane, as can Acid Arrow, but they’re only support, not the point of the list. Green Goblin is mostly here because of the prevalence of Iron Patriot. Either your or your opponent’s Iron Patriot create a mini-game in that lane to see who wins, but that encourages them to play there on the next turn. That play can give Green Goblin a ton of extra power to clog the opponent.

One of the best Agamotto Arcanum remains Images of Ikonn, and that card gives a third powerful way to deal with cards like the The Void (play it with The Hood for a sudden 18 Power lane), but it also lets you run Hawkeye Kate Bishop and Sam Wilson more effectively by making their cheap and sometimes less-than-useful cards extremely powerful. King Eitri and Nico Minoru give you a way to draw all the stuff you need, and Rocket and Groot can be really punishing in a lane with The Void that your opponent is encouraged to fill. Everything just synergizes perfectly.
