Wow, this is already the 3rd bundle for 3,500 Gold in a row! Unfortunately, it’s almost no different from the bundle Hand of Havoc – it only includes a Series 5 card for those who don’t have it. But still let’s take a closer look.
As usual with this category of bundles – the value here is pretty modest. 112% Progress Value may look good at first glance, but as you can see from the Total Tokens per Gold value of 0.86 – the bundle hasn’t really moved far from the base Gold-to-Credits conversion, which gives 0.82 Tokens per Gold after spending Credits.
Also, the lack of any additional cosmetic bonuses like the ones you get from spending Credits doesn’t add stars to this bundle.
However, one very important difference from the Hand of Havoc bundle is worth noting – the bundle contains a variant for a Series 5 card: Proxima Midnight (even though the card was released quite a while ago). That means those who still don’t have Proxima Midnight can get her for free by buying the bundle. We’ll talk about that in one of the following sections.
Comparison With Other Bundles
Progress Value charts show the bundle is barely at an average level compared to other bundles released over the past 12 months and well below average when looking at bundles from the last 6 months.
The situation with bundles in its price tier isn’t any better. The bundle hovers around average to below average. So by pure value the bundle isn’t a good pick compared to alternatives.
If you judge by the most important metric – Total Tokens per Gold, which basically answers how many new cards you’ll get from the bundle – it’s bad.
If over 12 months the bundle sits at an average level, then among bundles over 6 months it’s not just below average but almost at the bottom, losing to almost every other bundle released during that time and beating only the awful Bio-Weaponized bundle.
What if you don’t have Proxima Midnight?
Of course, the picture changes dramatically if you don’t own Proxima Midnight. In that case, since you’re effectively getting value equal to 6,000 Tokens, the bundle skyrockets in the rankings and becomes a top pick, especially if you actually plan to play Proxima Midnight and she doesn’t just gather dust in your collection.
Use cases for the Proxima Midnight variant
Since Proxima Midnight clearly belongs to the discard archetype, decks that use her match that style. Her main place is, of course, classic discard decks with Dracula, where Proxima feels most at home.
Also, below are a couple of decks with slightly tweaked discard strategies.
The first deck focuses more on interacting with the Collector, while the second is more about generally strong plays and synergy with Darkhawk.
And although neither build is very common in the meta, they still perform pretty well.
Conclusion
Thus, such a bundle with 3000 Tokens for 3,500 Gold is still outdated and simply doesn’t keep up with the value of modern bundles, since it hasn’t been tweaked even once during its existence.
However, this exact bundle actually performs better than many of its peers, offering the chance to get a Series 5 card if you don’t have Proxima Midnight. In that case I can recommend buying the bundle, since the discard archetype hasn’t ever been at the bottom of the meta and Proxima Midnight will likely remain relevant, making the purchase a solid investment.
For those who already have Proxima, there’s not much point in buying the bundle. When there is a basic Credits for Gold offer in the shop with almost the same value, plus phenomenal Booster Packs and much better regular bundles, you really don’t want to spend Gold on that bundle.
So, until further tweaks, in its base version the bundle gets 2 stars out of 5. But if you can get Proxima Midnight for free it’s definitely worth it.
Also, don’t forget that you can evaluate this bundle in comparison to others using a variety of different criteria, utilizing the special chart on the dedicated Darklight Duelist bundle page! Below is an updated guide on how to use our tools to evaluate bundles on your own.
