Surge has been an extremely popular card since its release, easily eclipsing the Season Pass card Esme Cuckoo. However, when looking at the performance of both cards in the ranks leading up to Infinite, both are posting fairly similar results.
The tiebreaker seems to be flexibility here, as Surge is able to join most decks as a strong new 2-Cost without requiring you to change anything about your list. Esme Cuckoo, on the other hand, is doing her best work in synergistic builds that are more prone to unfortunate draws, which naturally limits her Win Rate. However, both cards are racking up a similar amount of Cubes.
| Mission | # | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Play On Reveal Cards | 15 | 150 Credits |
| Win with Esme Cuckoo starting in your Deck | 4 | 200 Collector’s Tokens |
| Win with Surge starting in your Deck | 8 | 150 Gold |
For this week, the Season Pass card rewards the tokens, not the usual Gold.
Surge Performance

There was no doubt that Surge would be a solid card; the real question was how good would Surge be. So far, the card is in the game’s top 15 cards, although it fails to compare to the top tier cards in terms of Cube Average.
Those who don’t enjoy the card will tell you she is being carried by Thanos and Good Cards decks, which have all quickly adopted the new 2-Cost. However, there is a very interesting metric about Surge: the Win Rate on Draw and On Play is almost the exact same.
This means Surge is a very reliable card that you can blindly play when drawn. That’s not much of a surprise when playing her on Turn 2 (which is typically worth a Snap), but it would be insane if the card was able to help her deck even when played on Turn 3 or 4. The numbers might be indicating that Surge is much more reliable than a “Turn 2 or skip” kind of card.

Esme Cuckoo Performance

I feel like we have just scratched the surface with Esme Cuckoo, and playing the new Season Pass card in Silver Surfer is only a phase. Not that she is a particularly bad inclusion there, but Esme Cuckoo can do so much more.
Although her Win Rate isn’t as good as Surge‘s, Esme Cuckoo makes a lot of unreliable decks able to compete in more games. For example, Mister Negative has posted a 56% Win Rate so far in the new season, which is a fairly high mark for a deck that is typically around 52% or 53%.
Also, while Esme Cuckoo is just a top 20 card in the ranks 80 to Infinite, Mister Negative, Jane Foster Mighty Thor, and Iron Man are all in the top 10. It is unrewarding to be a supporting piece, but when certain strategies suddenly spike in power it is typically due to the new additions—not the cards we have been playing for years.

Bonus Challenge Decks
Looking at the decks you can play Esme Cuckoo or Surge right now, the missions should be quite simple to complete this week. Plus, both cards have at least three archetypes in common, which means you can tackle all the challenges at once.
If you only got one of the two cards, here are some strong performers on the way to Infinite that you can use to complete the missions and maybe climb a few ranks at the same time.
