Malekith Decks & Week in Review: Bonus Challenge Guide

Complete the Bonus Challenge Missions efficiently using our decks, or find out how they are performing with our review and decide if you should get the card!

During the weekend, there is now one more set of Missions for players to complete: The Bonus Challenge! These involve additional rewards for winning games related to the week’s new card and the Season Pass card. These missions provide extra Collector’s Tokens, Gold, and Credits!

You need to win games with the card starting in your deck, and it does not count if the card was generated by cards such as Cable, Loki, and Maria Hill. Each of these reward amounts will vary depending on the difficulty of the mission. However, you don’t have to play the card during the course of the match for it to count, it just needs to be in your starting twelve!

There will be Bonus Challenge Missions available for each new card release to allow players to earn back Collector’s Tokens and subsidize their cost. Players can also expect the rewards to be stabilized at 200 Tokens to help them plan their token budget for the month.

War of the Nine Realms: Bonus Challenges – November 15, 2024

This week’s Bonus Challenge Missions are:

Mission#Reward
Play 3-Cost Cards15150 Credits
Win with Malekith starting in your Deck4200 Collector’s Tokens
Win with Surtur starting in your Deck8150 Gold

Most players will want to be efficient with these missions, so today we will give you a few different decks that incorporate all the cards featured each weekend. You can find the current best performing deck for each card down below, as well as two other options to match your collection or play style preferences.

We’ll also give you a short guide on how to get the most out of the decks and finish the missions quickly. First, let’s take a quick look at the new card’s performance this week.

Malekith Performance

Malekith Meta Stats

While it didn’t push anything new in the meta, Malekith has been included in a variety of decks so far. Discard, Wiccan, and Toxic have found very promising results with the new 4-Cost, although the card acts as a support tool rather than a key synergistic piece in each of those archetypes.

Malekith looks like a good standalone addition to many decks, but I wouldn’t say it’s a mandatory card at the moment. It is worth noting, however, that the card has better metrics On Play than On Draw, which means Malekith is better on the board instead of in your hand (an indication that playing the card has a meaningful impact in those games).

Rating: 6 out of 10.

Surtur Performance

Surtur Meta Stats History

Surtur just got hit with a nerf, so its performance is still to be determined as a [3/4]. From the early results and the popularity of the card since the OTA, it seems like the community still has faith in Surtur.

Although there isn’t currently a dominant deck with the card, there are plenty of archetypes that are using the card. Thanos, Wiccan, Arishem, and 10 Power all have lists with Surtur that are posting some solid results.

Both cards have found the same home in the current best Wiccan build. They have lost a bit of momentum following the OTA, though, and moving the opponent’s cards with Aero and Magneto has been particularly effective against Skaar decks because they aren’t very flexible. Still, this list is more than capable of grabbing some wins to complete both missions at the same time, in addition to being fairly straight-forward to play.

In the past, Discard had a list with Gwenpool and Grand Master that looked awfully similar to this one. Instead of hoping to grant your Swarm some extra power, this deck tries to use Malekith to bolster your chances of finding key cards like MODOK, Dracula, and Apocalypse. If Morbius is still in your deck, you’ll have an insane pull that can win you the lane, and either Blade or Colleen Wing can always discard Apocalypse one more time before Dracula gains its power. Just make sure to play Malekith before Dracula so the ability timing works out right.

Hydra Bob could replace Nico Minoru to make Malekith even stronger here, but the possibility of copying the card Anti-Venom hits, as well as the overall flexibility that Nico Minoru provides, makes her slightly better in my book. You could also consider Red Guardian or Silver Sable if you’re missing a card in the list.

As for Malekith himself, the card has plenty of great hits between Hazmat, Luke Cage, and U.S. Agent. He also has the biggest benefit of showing you what he pulled, allowing you to play accordingly.

Recruit Season

There are a lot of decks with Surtur right now, but there are not many good ones since the OTA. Indeed, not only has the Surtur strategy been figured out (meaning you won’t keep many people in the game when it works out for you), the early results for Surtur + Thanos decks haven’t been particularly great.

You could just play very aggressively and Snap early in the hopes that your opponent just Retreats to complete your missions quickly, but winning the big cube games requires some unpredictability.

That is what Heimdall brings in the first deck. Otherwise a pretty basic 10 Power deck, Heimdall lets you change which lanes you’re competing for at the end of the game to surprise your opponents. It can be a little tricky, but moving 20 points isn’t something simple to adapt against, especially when nothing tells your opponent that you intend to move those points in the first place.

The Double Up build is simply better at hiding its true power, which makes the opponent more likely to believe they have a shot.

Closing Thoughts

This is a bit of a weird weekend for the missions considering Malekith hasn’t been very popular and Surtur just got nerfed (alongside its bestie Skaar). Still, both cards have good decks to complete the missions with, and there are various play styles available for all types of players out there.

The missions for the Tokens and the Gold should be fairly simple to complete, which is ultimately the most important part of these missions anyway.

Hopefully this guide helps you decide if you want the card prior to the missions coming out, as well as what you can play to complete the missions quickly!

Good Game Everyone.
