Overall, both Sam Wilson Captain America and Diamondback are about the same cards as before after the OTA. The current Season Pass card lost a bit of Win Rate due to Surtur 10 Power not dominating anymore. Still, that should only be temporary until someone finds the next dominant deck that Sam Wilson Captain America can be slotted into as a strong standalone.
Diamondback kind of flopped before the OTA, and she still isn’t very popular afterward. So far, it seems like the card benefits from the Toxic archetype more than it profits from her inclusion. Indeed, the stronger builds from before the card’s release are still the same but with Diamondback included, and she’s not impacting their performance much. One could even go as far as to say Laufey had a bigger impact on that archetype so far.

Diamondback Performance

With Surtur getting nerfed, I wanted to take a look at Diamondback before the OTA, as the Toxic archetype might have lost a great match up and some momentum as a result.
I’m a bit shocked honestly. Only 48h after its release and Diamondback looks like a terrible card if you look at our tracker and a card that players didn’t really care about according to the Untapped data.
The only solid metric looks to be the Cube Rate on Draw, which indicates that Diamondback is played in decks with good Snap equity. Otherwise, every other metric screams that you should skip that card. I believed this would be the best card to grab this month since it fit in strong archetypes, and I still think Diamondback makes sense for anyone who enjoys the Toxic archetype. Maybe the plan was to foresee the buff to Joaquin Torres Falcon and get that one instead.

Sam Wilson Captain America Performance

I waited until the OTA, even though it meant looking at very little data, to check how Sam Wilson Captain America was doing. I mean, we all knew the card was good before, and it could honestly have been on the list of nerfed cards considering how many synergies it has in the game (Captain America, Miles Morales, Kraven, Cull Obsidian…). I wouldn’t have blinked at a [2/2] Sam Wilson, but we all know that nerfing the current Season Pass card isn’t going to happen unless the card literally breaks the game.
Since the OTA, the card has been posting a better Cube Rate despite falling to Tier B on Untapped. This is a bit hard for me to comprehend, but I would attribute this to the lower Win Rate that is explained by Sam Wilson having to deal with Scream in Ranked (that problem doesn’t exist anymore in Sanctum Showdown), which often leads to an early Retreat.
The popularity, however, is unchanged—still around the 20% mark.

Bonus Challenge Decks
Sam Wilson Captain America and Diamondback don’t really go in the same decks, and I didn’t have much data to look at due to the recency of the OTA. As such, here are the best performing decks for each card, alongside a Scream deck that is able to fit both cards. Kingpin and Scream can afflict enough negative power for Diamondback to make sense in that deck.
