Best Lasher Decks to Try on Day 1 and Strategy Guide

Lasher enters the Marvel Snap arena! Read about the new Series 4 card's strengths and weaknesses and find some decks to try it out in here!

Lasher is the newest Series 4 card joining Marvel Snap for the December 2024 season Marvel Rivals. It is a 2-Cost, 2-Power card that reads: Activate: Afflict an enemy card here with negative Power equal to this card’s Power. You can get this card for free in the limited time mode High Voltage between December 28, 2024 and January 4, 2025.

Today, we will take a deeper look at the new card and, of course, the best decks to try it out in.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Lasher doesn’t require a lot of analysis. The card wants to be played between Turn 2 and Turn 5 and, once activated, will represent a [2/4]. This might not seem like a great card, but it isn’t a bad baseline considering you can easily add to Lasher‘s power (which doubles its effectiveness).

First and foremost, the Toxic synergy is in a pretty good spot at the moment so Lasher should have a very obvious landing spot. In that deck, the card brings immediate support to Ajax; the new card would provide an extra power to Ajax, which would make it a [2/5] more often than not. Lasher could also represent a way to help Red Guardian hit the card you want to hit.

For example, if your opponent has a four power card and a three power card in a lane together, Lasher gives you a 50% chance to change the four into a two and modify Red Guardian‘s target. There are a lot of cards are trying to dodge Red Guardian in this meta, and this interaction could steal some games.

The other way to make Lasher bigger than a [2/4] is by buffing it. Indeed, the card will double any buff it receives by echoing it in power affliction. As such, giving Lasher an extra two power effectively makes it a [2/8].

In a meta that features a ton of Galacta, Gwenpool, and other such cards, Lasher has the potential to represent quite a lot of power for a 2-Cost card.

To conclude, let’s take a look at the cards Lasher should be mindful of. Both the Activate keyword and the Toxic synergy have some enemies (in addition to a glaring problem associated with this card that I’ve been ignoring until now).

Red Guardian might be one of ‘s best allies, but it’s also one of its biggest weaknesses. The tech card could easily come down on curve to negate Lasher. There’s also the anti-affliction card himself, Luke Cage. Unfortunately, you can’t do much against these two.

The other concern Lasher might have to overcome is its own weakness to the Toxic synergy. Indeed, if Lasher‘s power is reduced, the affliction it provides will reduce as well. This makes Lasher quite weak to certain locations, such as Necrosha, as well as other cards that negatively impact power like Silver Sable and Scream.

The Verdict

To be fair, I don’t think Lasher will make the current Toxic build stronger. It doesn’t synergize with Malekith, and that deck really only uses Hazmat to buff Ajax. Finding Lasher without Hazmat wouldn’t make Ajax a huge lane-winning card.

I think this card’s biggest strength is its ability to magnify the buffs it receives. Fortunately, the meta we’re in has a lot of great buff cards, so Lasher has a great shot of finding a deck Galacta alone is enough to make Lasher a [2/10].

Any card that turns a buff into even more power has some merit in a season dominated by Galacta. As such, Lasher could become a solid 2-Cost in decks that have enough room to add it to the mix. Plus, the Agony and Peni Parker duo has gained some momentum in the “cheat out 4-Cost cards a turn early” strategy, and both cards represent extra ways to buff Lasher.

Variants

Lasher has no variants at the moment. Booooo.

Closing Thoughts

Lasher looks like a Toxic card at first, but it doesn’t really fit the mold of that deck after giving it more thought. Lasher is, however, a card you want to buff, and the current Season Pass card Galacta is a buffing machine.

As such, I expect Galacta to be the card that makes Lasher playable. It probably won’t lead to a very different meta than what we are experiencing at the moment, but at least we get a new playable card for free!
