During the weekend, there is now one more set of Missions for players to complete: The Weekend Missions! These involve additional rewards for winning games related to the week’s new card and the Season Pass card. These missions provide extra Collector’s Tokens and Gold! This week’s Weekend Challenges are:
Mission | # | Reward |
---|---|---|
Win with Sebastian Shaw starting in your Deck | 8 | 150 Gold |
Win a Match with 40+ Total Power | 10 | 500 Credits |
Win with Cyclops starting in your Deck | 4 | 200 Collector’s Tokens |
You need to win games with the card starting in your deck, and it does not count if the card was generated by cards such as Cable, Loki, and Maria Hill. Each of these reward amounts will vary depending on the difficulty of the mission. There will be Weekly Missions available for each new card release. The goal of Weekly Missions is to allow players to earn back Collector’s Tokens from new cards and subsidize their cost.
The token missions are expected to differ from week to week, depending on the card. For example, three wins for 100 Collector’s Tokens, four wins for 300, and five wins for 500, depending on the week (1,000 Collector’s Tokens is on the highest end).
Most players will want to be efficient with these missions, so today we will give you three different decks that incorporate Sebastian Shaw.
We’ll also give you a short guide on how to get the most out of the deck and finish the missions quickly, but first let’s take a quick look at the new card’s performance this week.

Performance
Sebastian Shaw is the Season Pass card for the Hellfire Gala season, so it gets a lot of attention from the player base due to the availability. The ability had some immediate homes and synergies that were apparent, but there were also some exciting ideas that appeared to be possible. What actually ended up being effective, and is the card strong enough to change the Marvel Snap meta?
Sebastian Shaw has taken an interesting place in the game. It is clearly a powerful target in Silver Surfer decks. The combination of buffs provided from Silver Surfer and Nova pushes the card to 11 power, which makes it an anchor to compete for lanes. This synergy plays out as expected, so if you enjoy Silver Surfer style decks, this is looking like an auto-include.
The problems begin when you try to maximize the value from this card and it becomes apparent that it’s quite narrow. Cards like Nakia and Okoye don’t do enough to support the card and other cards at the same time. Brood and Mister Sinister are the only two cards that really synergize with this plan. These buff cards have always been better when the value is realized regardless of what cards are hit, but this strategy relies on specific hits and draws to happen in order. This limitation over only six turns can often result in awkward outcomes, especially if you’re not all-in on the effect. This limits the Sebastian Shaw decks to a really narrow set of decks that all have a very similar game plan.
Your also locked out of other strategies when trying to use the package with other cards. Nakia and Okoye, for example, don’t have a lot of cross synergy. As On Reveals, you can try to combine them with Werewolf By Night in the same Silver Surfer deck. This allows you to play all the highest power 3-drops, but then you have some moments where Sebastian Shaw is easily eclipsed by playing the other 3-Cost cards.
Thankfully for Sebastian Shaw, Surfer remains one of the stronger decks for dropping stats. This means it occupies a very playable place in the meta, and this doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. It also improves the deck’s ceiling and makes the card valuable for the archetype. Shadow King can hurt it, but this not a new weakness for Silver Surfer decks.
Shaw is a limited but powerful card. I hope that it may bring cards like Okoye and Nakia back into a variety lists and support some buff archetypes that don’t appear to have materialized just yet. However, the simple combination of putting the 3-drop into the Silver Surfer deck worked as expected, making Shaw a must buy for the 3-Cost enjoyers.
So, how do you use Sebastian Shaw to rack up wins and complete the Weekend Challenge Missions?
Silver Surfer
This deck is all in on playing Sebastian Shaw and built to include the highest cost 3-drops we can play. This allows you to just drop as much power as possible, aiming to out power your opponent. This ends up being rather simple to play, but surprisingly effective – especially during the early season climb.
In order to cheapen the deck, we go more to the Storm route where we can try to lock a lane and overpower the other with Shaw and friends. Again, very effective in the early season climb, but it has some more predictability compared to the first deck.
Iron Lad
This deck incorporates the Silver Surfer and Nakia plan, but it goes with a more expensive top end alongside Iron Lad. This allows for Iron Lad to hit excellent targets and bridge the gap between the cheap buffs in the early game and the powerhouses in the late game. The goal is the same: get Sebastian Shaw down and use Silver Surfer. But here, you have more finishers that can allow for the deck to win in other ways.
Sera
Sera can allow an attempt to combine Sebastian Shaw with another package: Hit Monkey and Mysterio. The key synergy is playing Silver Surfer with both Sebastian Shaw and Hit Monkey, which can be huge. This allows for the Turn 5 Mysterio + Hit Monkey play to have a clear follow up. Of course, this limits the requirement to always play Sera on Turn 5. There’s no Brood to help with board space, but it may be worthwhile to consider it over Mobius M. Mobius.
Black Panther
Last but not least, this deck packs the Black Panther and Arnim Zola package, combined with White Tiger. This gives the deck another way to spread power wide and another good hit for Iron Lad. Remember to consider what Arnim Zola will do if and when you Iron Lad, but always go for it on Turn 4 (unless you have Wong to play).
Cyclops
For decks with Cyclops only, it is a card that’s really only played in High Evolutionary and Patriot decks (for obvious reasons)- here are some recent meta decks that feature the card!
Closing Thoughts
Wins with the new card may seem a tall order some weeks depending what quality of card is released. Hopefully this guide helps you decide first if you want the card prior to the missions coming out, and what you can potentially play to complete the missions quickly!
