Washington D.C. Hot Location Guide: Strategy, Best Cards and Decks

This week's Marvel Snap Featured Location is Washington D.C.: Cards here with no abilities have +3 Power. Here are our proposed strategies with the best cards and decks that you can try (including for Pool 1 and Pool 2 players) for the next 24 hours for the new meta!

The Hot Location for the next 24 hours is Washington D.C.: Cards here with no abilities have +3 Power. Hot Locations happen every week, starting Sunday at 3 AM GMT. The chosen location has a 50% increased chance of appearing during games. Players who strategically build around the location or counter the decks that do so can have an advantage over their opponents! So what do you play?

Strategy and General Tips

Time to dust off your Patriot decks and your No Ability cards as we travel to Washington D.C. for this week’s Hot Location. If you’re deep into Series 3, your most consistent bet is to play some kind of Patriot list, preferably with Cosmo to defend against counter play.

If you’re not confident with Patriot, you can also use Storm or Scarlet Witch on this location to remove the benefit for your opponent. These sorts of strategies, when played well, could lead to an advantage.

When locations like this one come up, it can be easier to determine the lines of play your opponent will make, which allows for more counter play options. Sera, Galactus, and Lockdown decks may all be different ways to play that can have increased success with a location like this one. Being able to reliably determine which lane to lockdown or counter due to changed play patterns can lead to high cube wins.

Building in the more limited pools will be more difficult, but there are some key cards you can look towards to help improve your win rate like White Tiger. These cards add tokens that have no abilities and are also buffed by the location. This leads to recommending On Reveal decks for Series 1, 2, and early Series 3 players if you’re missing some key cards.

Patriot decks are the obvious consideration. Due to this, we need to carry some cards to change the mirror. Super-Skrull is the first of these cards, and I highly recommend it if you’re planning on playing the Patriot lists.

The other is Onslaught. It’s risky in the mirror, but when played against other opponents the extra power is less likely to be played around and could be the surprise boost you’re looking for.

Sera Control can carry all the counter tools for Patriot while also being one of the best decks in the game. The ability to counter all the different flavors of Patriot can lead to swinging the game state on the final turn and surprising the opponent, gaining you extra cubes in the process. This is theoretically the stronger way to go as you can surprise your opponents.

Finally, the Lockdown direction could be an option to counter both. We can use the Lockdown cards to close a lane they are not playing to, then prepare for either Gamora or Enchantress to finish the game on Turn 6. This is aided by the knowledge that the hot location gives us about potential early plays and allows us to prepare for which lanes we need to lock and where we need to play Enchantress later on.

In Series 2, we can use Storm. She can be used to both counter the location and set up for us to lock it down and add to it later using White Tiger. This allows us to adjust the build slightly, adding in Iceman and Scorpion for early control and Lizard for early priority.

One edge case use here with Lizard: we can turn its ability off using Enchantress on Washington D.C. if the opportunity arises. But keep in mind: Enchantress is your flexible card, and it is there in case you run into the Ongoing powerhouses.

What is Washington D.C.?

Washington D.C. is the capital of the United States – and, as Marvel Comics primarily takes place in (you guessed it) the United States, there’s a deep connection with the city. Marvel Comics often delve into the corridors of power in Washington D.C., which is the hub for various government agencies, including S.H.I.E.L.D., the clandestine intelligence organization responsible for protecting Earth from threats both terrestrial and extraterrestrial. Sometimes these same agencies that are supposed to be defending us from threats are the threats, but, at least, they have No Abilities.
