Hello everyone, and welcome to Top 5! I’m Glazer of Snap Judgments: The Official Marvel Snap Zone Podcast, and every week, we’ll be counting down a different Top 5 things you need to know in, around, and about Marvel Snap! Sometimes this will be silly in nature, but we’ll always have some pearls of wisdom to help make you the best (and best adjusted!) Marvel Snap player you can be! This week? The Top 5 Cards to Save Spotlight Caches for through January!
Keep in mind that the upcoming unreleased cards are datamined and are not final. Dates and card details may change prior to their release. And hey, you know me, let’s do a deck for each. I revealed the cards, in no particular order, in my daily video today:
5. Firestar – Releasing 12/13

People are down on Firestar, and I get it; it’s hard for a 6-Cost card to have an impact in Marvel Snap. But Glenn has said he’s trying to make more impactful 6-Cost cards, so this one is very likely going to end up strong.
How strong? Well, we know we’re getting a buff deck coming when Sebastian Shaw comes out, and we know that will likely be a Silver Surfer deck… but what if it’s also a Firestar deck? Giving Shaw an extra three power is really a plus five, and you can run plenty of other buffs in that deck, too.
How about running Magik into Jane Foster Mighty Thor in a Thor deck, then spend Turn 6 going off – Yellowjacket, Wasp, Mysterio, Hit Monkey, and Kitty Pryde – before dropping that Kitty again on Turn 7 and giving every card another three or more power with Firestar? There are so many possibilities!
And you know how Cerebro 3 is pretty good? Well, Firestar turns that into Cerebro 6. This card is going to be great.
4. Beta Ray Bill – Releasing 1/31

Beta Ray Bill, at first glance, seems like Thor for one more cost, but he’s just so much better for one more cost. First of all, his hammer, Stormbreaker, actually has 1 power. That’s automatically pretty great, but remember that buff deck we talked about above? Well, Stormbreaker isn’t plus five power – it DOUBLES Beta Ray’s power.
That means a Forge on Beta Ray is plus four, not plus two, and, even without running a pump effect, an absolute ton of locations make for silly power totals. With a buff deck likely coming, this is a great card, but Lockjaw builds benefit greatly from another Thor; and, of course, the 0-Cost deck loves this, too. Heck, even a basic On Reveal benefits from it.
3. Caiera – Releasing 1/3
Welp, this feels like Mobius M. Mobius all over again. We’ve long thought that, without Killmonger, Zoo decks would be the best all through the game. So I guess we’ll see? The 6-Cost thing seems good, but, honestly, all that’s doing is protecting cards like Doctor Doom from Alioth.
Thankfully, this is an Ongoing ability, so Rogue and Enchantress continue to get better and likely will see more play. And maybe one day we’ll get the fabled Echo meta.
Either way, Caiera seems likely to be a meta staple, as cheating out a Skaar or She-Hulk that can’t be killed seems crazy strong.
2. Annihilus – Releasing 11/22

The Prince that was Promised for Junk decks, Annihilus has the potential to totally reshape the meta. Realistically, it probably only really goes into one deck, but it takes that deck from a consistent Tier 2 deck to a contender for the top of the rankings.
My concern is that Annihilus mirrors seem terrible, as everyone junking each other sounds like a miserable experience. Still, if it’s any good (and it should be), Annihilus is going to be a key card in the meta.
1. Grand Master – Releasing 1/24

How many cards is this broken with? Werewolf By Night is an easy one. How about Mjolnir and Stormbreaker? Hit Monkey? Oh sheez, Shang-Chi! The aforementioned Annihilus is pretty sick for the mirror. How about an extra try at Loki? Just open your game, hit the filter for On Reveal… and grin stupidly at the potential. Save for this card!
