Wakandan Throne Room

Wakandan Throne Room Featured Location Guide: Strategy, Best Cards and Decks

This week's Marvel Snap Featured Location is Wakandan Throne Room. Here's our proposed strategy, with the best cards and decks that you can try (including for Pool 1 and Pool 2 players) for the next 48 hours!

This week’s Marvel Snap Featured Location is Throne Room: Card(s) here with the highest Power have their Power doubled. This is a brand new location that is now added to the Location pool and will show up 40% more frequently in games during the feature period, for the next 48 hours. Let’s find out what the best strategies, cards, and decks are!

What is Throne Room?

Now this one is exactly as described on the tin. The seat of power for the nation of Wakanda!

Strategy

This location is similar to Monster Metropolis, which provides +3 power to the highest card. At times, the best way to win this location is just to play the larger card as it can take the +3 from all the opponents side. The same logic should apply to this location.

Doubling one card with really high power seems to be the stronger way forward here. The problem with trying to flood a location such as this is ensuring they all meet the threshold. Whereas one big card will steal buff from a whole swam of cards and double in power as an example consider:

Similar story to the start of the month here. Shang-Chi still will be good but by now you’re coming here for more than just basic Sera deck recommendations.

So, if we are trying to get creative what can we do?

DISCLAIMER: November 29, 2022 patch may have an affect some of the below recommendations.

Cards and Deck Ideas

Taskmaster

Taskmaster can be a powerhouse card with locations impacting power. The card played on the location can be copied by Taskmaster at its current power. So if you play a card on Turn 4 into Throne Room which has the highest power, you can copy this for double power on 5 in another location.

One meta adjacent deck stands out here as likely to be strong into this location – the Zero Destroy deck. Typhoid Mary on 4 into an 18 or 20 power Taskmaster as potential plan B should do some work. This also is usually early enough that your unlikely to be Shang-Chi‘d in time to be unable to copy the power.

Therefore, the first recommendation, try the Zero and Venom archetype. Sera fits in here also as an enabler for Turn 6 Venom and 5 drop (Red Skull or Taskmaster). Keep in mind Red Skull most games will be 30 power by himself on Throne Room, mitigating his disadvantage entirely. Playing him without Zero or Venom will be less likely to impact you negatively in this location.

Basic goal here is to use Zero and Venom to take away the negatives of primarily Typhoid Mary and Red Skull, and then copy the power across with Taskmaster.

Electro, Arnim Zola & Friends

Big cards need big energy, Electro provides this. Arnim Zola can copy the big cards and play them everywhere else.

This one serves as a starting point example, many cards in this can be swapped for what big cards you have, and I am confident changes can be made to this one. But given we already can get new cards, lets cheat a little and try to include one here.

This the all-in build for the week. Electro on 3, Devil Dinosaur or Red Skull on 4, Taskmaster on 5 into Absorbing Man to copy the Taskmaster again! Now from experience with Electro decks you want some back up plans and the rest of the deck tries to do this. It runs the Odin package allow for Doctor Doom into Odin. Storm to block of a lane and try for a lane control victory, and The Infinaut, primarily for post Electro, skip turn play The Infinaut. The Throne Room will hopefully help you copy that power across to win other lanes whilst locking down Throne Room with your big cards.

If you don’t have Absorbing Man, Aero, Black Panther and Sunspot can all be variations on this list.

Devil Dinosaur

The current tyrant could be the next tyrant. This list is essentially unmodified for the location, but Cosmo + Devil Dinosaur should win Throne Room. Then you can just Aero to win the second location. A proven deck at this point and likely to be a safe choice for the location.

This a take on a lane control deck. Now moving towards a (now slightly nerfed) Sera list may be the way but as mentioned up top, let’s explore other ways to be annoying. This version runs the usual lane control cards, plus Goose to turn off the ability to play big cards into Throne Room. The whole list is just trying to be annoying the whole way through the game and has Magneto as potential way to come over the top of Throne Room if absolutely required.

If this too all in for you though…

Daredevil vision may help us here select the right way forward here. If we see the way out on 5, we play the card then, if not drop Sera and go for Kingpin and Aero on their big Turn 6 play. Very reactive deck and may have one too many tech cards but Cosmo may come in huge if on reveal combos become the way forward on this location.

This deck is consistent now, hopefully is consistent if any nerfs come in during the location AND has a excellent game plan for Throne Room, which is a recipe for location success.

For reasons, I really wanted to feature Namor this week further up, but could not in good conscience. So here’s is a Pool 1 deck, featuring Namor as your back Throne Room target. Simple Devil Dinosaur deck otherwise and should be able to lockdown a lane, then finish off Throne Room with Namor or Devil Dinosaur.

For Pool 2, against the reduced field of Pool 2 cards, we get to try the Namor dominates Throne Room plan. Sunspot and Storm make this more consistent, allowing you turn off other lanes to left or right, stack mid with Ant Man, Klaw and Mister Fantastic with Onslaught for some other surprise lines.

Final Turn
