At this point, I have to ask myself what will it take for Second Dinner to pull the trigger on significant buffs. Some that will shake the metagame, or at least our beliefs in how good a card is when we read the notes.
The update on May 21st was bland due to a balanced metagame, even if in retrospective, the High Power decks were a notch above the rest. In this one, those same High Power decks are nerfed as there are preventing us from playing the newly released cards, unfortunately struggling to compete so far.
So if I understand correctly. When the metagame is balanced, we don’t buff anything significantly. Yet, when the metagame is not balanced, we don’t buff anything significantly either.
It feels like the only way to play a fresh strategy in Marvel Snap is through new cards, an infuriating situation when there is a golden opportunity to bring back synergies every two weeks.
This isn’t a bad OTA. It touches the right cards and will likely improve the overall balance of the metagame. Yet, this isn’t an exciting OTA either.
Nerfs

Now a [4/3]
The short analysis of this change is that Mother Askani isn’t played for her amazing 4 power, but her ability to duplicate important cards while making them cheaper and more powerful. If we dig a little, we could point out that one less power is slightly worse for priority. Copying Cosmo or Negasonic Teenage Warhead might not be as strong with the now [4/3].
Still, Mother Askani remains a good card.

Now a 2-cost without no increases.
With this change, the card is obviously a lot less flexible as we can’t use the first one whenever we have 1 energy in our curve. Plus, the synergy with Mobius M. Mobius is ruined as well. This will for sure impact the High Power archetypes, but I’m not certain how much yet.
Those decks could go back to Enchantress and Zero to remove annoying abilities. It won’t be as flexible, nor will it provide extra power, leading to those decks to disappear for a bit, as least until we accept their new status.

Now a [1/5]
The change to the Virus was a decent blow already, but taking power off other cards pushes the High Power decks over the edge in my opinion. Considering this was Martyr’s only archetype, the card will probably join Black Cat, as a card with enough power to be considered, but too bad of an ability to make it into the deck with other cards available for that slot.
Buffs

Now a [2/1]
This card was never played for its own power, but its ability to grow the Zombie Horde. A lower cost will help in that regard, so this looks like a buff to Zombie Sentry although it lost a good chunk of power in exchange for that energy discount.

Now a [3/5]
One more power and Kraglin will compete with Wave and Luna Snow. Keep going buddy, you got this!

Now a [2/4]
4 power is an important threshold for certain cards, as it means you beat the really good one such as Iron Patriot, or can help your deck seize priority.
I don’t think it is enough for Magus, but it is a good buff nonetheless.

Now a [2/2]
There aren’t many decks built around 1-cost cards at the moment. Yet, the new season pass synergizes very well with Kitty Pryde so that might be a way back into the metagame for the now [2/2] Lockheed.
Now a [3/6]
How many times in these OTA articles, or in other people’s video, have we said how much we would like a +2 power, just to give the card a real boost rather than a safe +1?
I don’t know if Crystal will see more play as a [3/6], just because giving our opponent a card as well doesn’t feel like a positive ability most of the time. However, that +2 makes me a lot more excited for this one than the rest of this OTA.
New Decks
That’s it for this OTA review. You can find everyone from the Marvel Snap Zone team in our community discord, alongside plenty of people to share your excitement about those changes.
Good Game Everyone!
