Testing Various Decks After the Balance Update

I tend to prefer to focus on the fundamentals when it comes to teaching card games. However, having fun and learning through trial and error is also part of the process. This is exactly what this session is about, testing decks after a balance change, and hopefully winning cubes doing so.

The coaching sessions are focused on helping everyone improve their game, which requires learning the fundamentals of the game, alongside the crucial information about the current metagame. Right after a balance update, that second part doesn’t really exist, even if we can always guess which decks will very likely be amongst the popular ones.

Then, it is always fun to have these laid-back sessions where everyone just brings a deck, or even simply a concept or idea they want to explore. We can all discuss it and try to improve the build, while different points of view can also help explore very different avenues. Indeed, some will want to focus on points, other on disruption, or some will constantly try to fit their favorite card in every deck they play.

Then, even if I like a more disciplined approach, focusing on making sure everyone understands the ins and out of the session’s topic. It’s always fun to have a somewhat chaotic session at times, and right after an OTA is the perfect time for that.

Here are a few decks we tested during this session:
