After the incredible value of the Wail of a Time bundle, you might not expect something as good anytime soon. And indeed, this week’s gold bundle, Rich and Ruthless, doesn’t look particularly advantageous at first glance. It might remind regular readers of the “3,000 Tokens for 3,500 Gold” formula we’ve often seen with past bundles.
Let’s figure out if that’s the case and if it’s worth buying.
As you can see, the value here is better than the “3,000 Tokens for 3,500 Gold” bundles – 0.88 Total Tokens per Gold versus 0.85. The Progress Value also doesn’t seem too bad – 114% was a solid result not too long ago, but only if the bundle includes Credits.
Thus, at first glance, the bundle makes a positive impression, but with a Total Tokens per Gold value below 0.9, it’s hard to consider seriously. Let’s see how it stacks up against other bundles from recent months.
Comparison With Other Bundles
And here the good picture clashes with harsh reality. When comparing the bundle with others released in the last 12 months, you can see how it drops in Progress Value and is noticeably below average. In the case of a six-month period, things are a bit better – the bundle is right at the average level.
Within its price category, the bundle holds at an average level, slightly above or right at the average level, depending on the comparison period.
And the Total Tokens for Gold metric really exposes the bundle. It’s clear how the bundle dips in value on both graphs below, and especially trails behind other bundles released in the last 6 months. And that’s without even considering the great Booster Packs available weekly!
So yeah the bundle can hardly be called a good choice.
What if you don’t have Sebastian Shaw?
As is often the case with such bundles – if you don’t yet have the Series 4 card (in this case, Sebastian Shaw), then the bundle’s value skyrockets for you personally, making it a very good deal.
This is, however, on the condition that you actually need the card and won’t just let it gather dust in your collection. And we’ll talk about where Shaw can be useful in the next section.
Use cases for the Sebastian Shaw variant
Speaking of where you might find Sebastian Shaw useful (or his variant), the first thing that comes to mind is, of course, multiple Silver Surfer decks. Shaw’s ability fits organically into the deck’s concept and can often win you the game under certain circumstances.
Unfortunately, Sebastian Shaw is rarely seen in other decks, and the best alternative scenario for future use is some kind of buff deck where, for some reason, there’s no Surfer. Thus, if you love this archetype, the card will suit you perfectly. And below I’m attaching 2 examples of such meta decks, with the best win rate recently, but with slightly different approaches.
Conclusion
The Wail of a Time bundle, released last week, made it clear that Second Dinner is interested in releasing bundles with better value than usual for at least the next few months (it was supposed to be much worse than its final version but was changed). Because of this, Rich and Ruthless looks weak in comparison, also due to the presence of Tokens instead of Credits, a not-so-low price of 4,000 Gold, and modest Progress Value and Total Tokens per Gold.
The bundle isn’t exactly terrible, but I can’t recommend buying it either. Of course, the exception is if you don’t have Sebastian Shaw, and you’d like to grab him in addition to the bundle’s base value. Then by all means – buy it!
Otherwise, it’s more of a skip than a buy. We’ll likely see many better bundles in the future, and if not – Booster Packs every week are still the best way to convert Gold into cards right now.
Also, don’t forget that you can evaluate this bundle in comparison to others using a variety of different criteria, utilizing the special chart on the dedicated Rich and Ruthless bundle page! Below is an updated guide on how to use our tools to evaluate bundles on your own.
