You will also be able to find the full Spotlight Cache release schedule for past, current, and upcoming months in our dedicated new card release guide or schedule page:
Week of August 6, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Marvel Boy | 5 | Flaviano |
| Blob | 5 | Famine |
| Red Hulk | 5 | Ed McGuinness |
A new season begins, and a new set of cards are here! Kicking off that new set is Marvel Boy! He is a [3/2] that gives three of your 1-Cost cards +1 power at the end of each turn. If you play three 1-Cost cards on turns 1 and 2, Marvel Boy on turn 3 can give you 12 Power across the match. That makes him a potential [3/14], or a [3/17] with Limbo in play! If you don’t want to pack your deck with 1-Cost cards, he pairs perfectly with Shanna. Her generation of 3 random 1-Cost cards in each location can activate on turn 3, and Marvel Boy can drop on turn 4 to generate an extra 9 Power.
Simply put, I think Marvel Boy has enough Power output to warrant his inclusion in decks. Since he isn’t an Ongoing either, he is difficult to stop outside of Killmonger or Red Guardian. He is definitely an interesting card worth putting on your watch list!
Red Hulk and Blob return this week! Blob has been a roller coaster of a card. He was top meta tier during Thanos and Hela‘s peak days, then he was nerfed where nobody played him. Arishem came around and gave him a second chance, only for the last OTA to nerf him once more. Blob can still be decent in an Arishem build, but he is only a shell of his former self. Red Hulk remains a good card, but struggles to find a good deck. His peak was with Mill decks, but even that deck has suffered nerfs. Perhaps this week will give these cards a chance to be tested more outside of their typical homes?
Week of August 13, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Wiccan | 5 | Flaviano |
| Loki | 5 | Mirka Andolfo |
| Pixie | 5 | Jay Anacleto |
Flying in as our second new card of the month is Wiccan! I’m not entirely sold on this ability. Ensuring you use all of your Energy and drawing Wiccan on turn 4 is no easy task. It can be done with the help of Quicksilver and Domino, but is it worth 2 turns of extra energy for the cost of running bad cards? I’m sure this card will high roll from time to time, but when Hope Summers is a card, why would you ever use Wiccan?
Loki and Pixie make their return appearances this week! Loki is a completely different card than before, and he has no active home outside of Arishem. If you are debating if this card is worth even considering, the developers have stated they fully intend on buffing Loki if his new ability doesn’t seem strong enough. Pixie has been a fun card, but nowhere near competitive. Her stats are too small to be useful late game, and her Cost shuffling has the chance of giving cards their original costs back! Overall, this week is severely lacking to me.
Week of August 20, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | 5 | Flaviano |
| Iron Lad | 5 | Hi Jeff! |
| Jeff the Baby Land Shark | 5 | Max Grecke |
Racing in as our 3rd card is Speed! He is another card that gives you a boost for spending all of your energy, but you aren’t severely punished for missing a single turn. As an Ongoing, he can be played on any turn and provide the same benefit. He has the potential of being a [3/9] (10 with Limbo) and simply scales back a little if you miss a turn or two.
Iron Lad and Jeff the Baby Land Shark are arguably two of the best cards in the game, and they are both available at the same time! While Iron Lad‘s play can vary based on what decks are popular at the time, he has always been a good card in the decks he works well with. Similarly, Jeff is always a good card in the decks he works with. Jeff, however, belongs in (almost) every deck! If it wasn’t clear already, this looks like a solid week!
Week of August 27, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | Flaviano | |
| Nimrod | 4 | Combo Break |
| Cannonball | 5 | Tyler Kirkham |
Bringing in the reinforcements is Emperor
Bringing this month to a close, we get Cannonball and Nimrod. Cannonball used to be a very popular card, but after the Professor X nerf, Cannonball sees next to zero play. Nimrod, on the other hand, sees plenty of play… in exactly one deck:
