Marvel Snap Meta Snapshot: Early Look at the Post-Patch Metagame Data

See how the latest patch has shaken up the meta. We take a high-level look at top-performing archetypes and take a close look at how far Shuri has fallen.

Earlier this week, Marvel Snap got a significant update that included all kinds of goodies. I mean, how great is the new game board? Did you know the card backs were 3D?! There were buffs and nerfs, too, including a direct hit to Shuri — and the ever-shifting metagame has adjusted quickly.

Shuri has been a top deck by any measure — usage, win rate, or cube rate — since she dropped to Series 4 at the end of January. She has resisted multiple past attempts to nerf her deck. Did this latest hit finally dethrone her?

Using data collected from our Marvel Snap Tracker and data-focused sister site MarvelSnap.Pro, we have a freshly updated Meta Snapshot to make that question easy to answer!

The patch is still fresh, but let’s take a quick look at the top-performing deck archetypes over the first first four days. I’ll also compare Shuri’s pre-patch numbers (over the last few weeks) to her post-patch numbers (so far).

The meta changes a lot once you hit rank 100, so I’ll be separating Infinite rank from the rest.

Ranks 20–99

The biggest reason the metagame changes dramatically after rank 100 is that it is a rank floor. Once you reach 100, you can’t go below 100 for the duration of the current season. Since you can’t lose your Infinite status, many players switch to playing just for fun instead of staying competitive.

Meta Share

Meta share represents usage — how often was the archetype played across all matches?

Top Archetypes

  1. Sandman Ramp — 15.3%
  2. Darkhawk / Devil Dinosaur — 9.9%
  3. Patriot — 9.8%
  4. Sera / Hit Monkey — 6.3%
  5. Galactus / Knull — 5.2%

Where’s Shuri?

Before the patch, Shuri was in 1st place with an imposing 15.5% of the meta share.

After the patch, Shuri has dropped to 10th place with “only” 4.6% of the meta share.

Win Rate

Win rate is straightforward — how often did the archetype win across matches it played in?

Top Archetypes

  1. Spectrum Ongoing — 57.4%
  2. MODOK Discard — 57.3%
  3. Patriot — 57.0%
  4. Darkhawk / Devil Dinosaur — 56.9%
  5. Daredevil / Devil Dinosaur — 56.7%

Where’s Shuri?

Before the patch, Shuri held 1st place with a win rate of a whopping 60.8%.

After the patch, Shuri has fallen to 15th place with a win rate of 55.1%.

Cube Rate

Cube rate means average cubes — how many cubes did the archetype earn per match?

Top Archetypes

  1. Spectrum Ongoing — 0.51 cubes
  2. Moon Girl / The Infinaut — 0.47 cubes
  3. Black Panther / Arnim Zola — 0.46 cubes
  4. Budget Hit Monkey — 0.45 cubes
  5. MODOK Discard — 0.45 cubes

Where’s Shuri?

Before the patch, Shuri was in a comfy 4th place with 0.56 average cubes per game.

After the patch, Shuri has plummeted to 25th place with 0.22 average cubes per game.

Ranks 100+

Shuri isn’t nearly as common at Infinite ranks, and that was true before her latest nerf, too. Still, I’d like to look at what archetypes are doing best in Infinite since the patch, as well as to look at how Shuri’s stats have shifted.

  4. Agatha Harkness Zoo — 5.3%
  5. Patriot — 5.1%

After the patch, Shuri has taken a dive to 34th place with -0.05 average cubes per game.

Conclusion

There’s no doubt that the latest Marvel Snap update has had a significant impact on the metagame. Most of all, it’s clear the latest nerf to Shuri has effectively dethroned her across the board. Other archetypes have risen to fill the void left behind Shuri’s fall, but none is nearly as dominant. Sandman Ramp is seeing almost as much usage as pre-patch Shuri, but it doesn’t even place in the top 5 for win rate or cube rate. It remains to be seen how things will settle, but that is a sign of a healthier metagame. Instead of a single deck enjoying both extremely high usage and success, we’re already seeing a more balanced and diverse metagame.

Going forward, there will be a handful of card nerfs and buffs on a weekly basis. That means we’ve entered a period where the metagame will be evolving at a higher pace than ever before. If you want to improve your competitive success, it’s important to understand which decks are seeing high use or high success in the current meta. Even if you enjoy playing off-meta decks, it’s important to know what the competition looks like!

In the past, the Meta Snapshot at MarvelSnap.Pro would take a few days after a patch to be updated. It was recently updated to stay current even on day 1 of a new patch. The tool offers filters that get more granular than this article, allowing you to explore deck performance within your rank and collection level. It also makes it easy to find many decks for each archetype. If you want to stay on top (or ahead!) of the ever-shifting meta and maximize your competitive edge, check out and bookmark the Meta Snapshot, making it an essential part of your Marvel Snap tool belt!
