Hela, Patriot, or The Living Tribunal, the current Marvel Snap early season metagame is filled with those high potential decks looking to build a gigantic amount of points.
This is the logical first step for a metagame, which typically features self-centered decks a lot in the first few days. These are ideal to grind back to Infinite, able to enforce their game plan against most opponents, while they can leverage the snap and retreat mechanic to capitalize on their best draws, while limiting the impact of the bad ones.
Oftentimes, counter decks will come and push the metagame to evolve, capitalizing on these synergies being fairly predictable once you know they are very popular. This will kickstart the second phase of the metagame, and the signal for more balanced strategies to come back, now that you don’t need a huge amount of points to exist.
In this session, we started to think about how we could counter these self-centered decks, looking for emerging decks and figuring what they were doing right. Then, each team of students went against me, playing one of the current self-centered decks. Could they build a nice deck and beat me on Destroy, Hela Tribunal or Electro Ramp?
