This week’s Marvel Snap Hot Location is Eternity Range: After turn 3, add a Rock to the losing player’s side. This is a Hot Location for the September 2023 season, Loki For All Time. For the next 24 hours, it will show up 50% more frequently in games during this feature period. Let’s find out what the best strategies, cards, and decks are!
Strategy and General Tips
The effect for this location goes off after the end of Turn 3, which means we can always fall back on location interaction. It also only impacts the losing side, so playing into it early with more power than your opponent gains you the advantage. Two cards that work perfectly for this effect are Angela and Kitty Pryde. This duo adds significant power early on and leaves spots open for later plays.
The Raft demonstrates that going hard into a location early on to win it, even for a powerful effect, can backfire when later combos outscale your power. Eternity Range also runs this risk. One way to abuse the synergy without having to fill the location is to try limiting what your opponent can put there with cards like Green Goblin, which may result in locking two spots in the location.
Synergy with Junk decks may make playing a Lockdown style of deck more successful during the featured location. Patriot and Ka-Zar can also buff the Rocks if you want to build solid decks that can compete for the location with less downside if you end up losing it on Turn 3.
Brood and Silver Surfer
Brood decks can get way ahead early on and junk the spot for your opponent. There is also a cross synergy with Patriot and the Rocks, which may come in handy for the times where you don’t win the location. This gives you more flexibility than other decks may have with the location since the Rock may not always be a strict downside.
Junk
Here we have ways to get ahead early, but the primary plan is to land Green Goblin on Eternity Range for a potential two spot lockout. We then have big cards like Sentry, Mojo, and the Demon to win the location later on or push power somewhere else.
Scam Zoo
This deck lets us attack the lane right away while still having ways to put power there in the final stages of the game. The deck is built around locking or equalizing a lane with Valkyrie and/or Shadow King, so activating the location synergizes with the main plan of this deck. Angela and Kitty Pryde early wherever possible, play Luke Cage, and try to use Invisible Woman and Shadow King to debuff an opponent’s lane.
Loki
Loki decks are another great direction for the location. You are often able to get significant power into the location early in order to make sure you win, and then you can easily overpower the other lanes or swap hands to get cards that let you out-value your opponent easily.
Series 2 and Below (pre-CL 474)
This deck uses Professor X and Hobgoblin as ways to finish Eternity Range in your favor. Hobgoblin is under used in Series 2 and is excellent into this location. You can either use it on Turn 5 to finish Eternity Range, or play it into a neglected lane if your opponent committed to Eternity Range too early. The rest is a strong Ongoing shell that Spectrum can buff to tip the scales in your favor.
Final Turn
Remember, at the time of writing, these decks are mostly untested; these are theorycraft ideas to get you going. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with for Eternity Range.
