The Hot Location for the next 24 hours is Elysium: Cards cost 1 less. This is a Hot Location for Marvel Snap’s August 2023 season, Big In Japan, that starts on selected Wednesdays and Sundays at 3 AM GMT. For 24 hours, it has a 50% chance of showing up in games.
Today’s Hot Location was originally Nidavellir and changed to Elysium. We apologize for any inconvenience caused! This is our updated guide for August 13, 2023.
Players who strategically build around the location or counter the decks that do so can have an advantage over their opponents! So what will you play?
Strategy and General Tips
Elysium is a location that can be used by any deck in the game. Since it reduces the cost of cards, this can result in combinations you wouldn’t normally be able to get off or force you to include energy ramping cards like Electro and Psylocke to function.
The cost reduction could also just represent playing your big cards earlier. This generally leads to exciting changes in how you decide to play and what you can achieve throughout the course of the game; however, the location appearing 50% of the time will potentially warp the game significantly.

The logical way forward is to play a deck that benefits the most from the reduced cost. Thanos Lockjaw, for example, will have Infinity Stones that cost nothing again. If we are looking wider afield, two types of decks ready to play into this strategy are those with either Sera or Mister Negative. These are far from the only directions to go, but they highlight what you want to build towards for the location. You want combinations of cards that work well together, are flexible, and allow you to change your plays depending on the situation.
Sandman can be a card which catches people off guard during the location as you see more cards which want to spam multiple cards on final turns. Playing Sandman Turn 4 is already the goal of many of these decks and doing this with more decks in the field to counter could be a huge advantage. Additionally as these decks often have lots of 5 and 6 cost cards, you are usually able to play combinations you usually needed Electro for without the Electro.
Decks
Combining Sera, Zabu and 4 drops can lead to games where your entire hand costs 1 on the final turn. This combined with your hand countering the opponents gameplan and Captain Marvel able to move if you misplay is a lot. Deck is already strong so combining with the location will only lead to this being even stronger.
The buzzkill way to go is to try and play Sandman as soon as possible, potentially play turn 4 or 5 Galactus plays or just play bigger cards than the opponent who had crazy things planned. get ahead early with 1 drops, play towards Electro into Sandman, then play a big finisher. Not what immediately comes to mind when you think Elysium but bigger cards benefit as you can play more of them than usual and it counters the other direction.
All Mister Negative decks benefit from the location as you get an extra way to play more cards and find other win conditions. This Mister Negative with Hit Monkey looks to use Hit Monkey lines as the back up plan alongside multiple 0 and 1 cost cards on the final turn.
Last but not least, Bounce. This can just put more power down than the other decks and needs to be respected with Elysium. The location represents 50%+ reduction on almost the entire deck and the flexibility this provides is huge. This is on top of the deck currently remaining underrated and still posting results on ladder without the location.
Series 2 and Below (pre-CL 474)
Sandman Zoo may be very powerful in Series 2 during the location. Elysium on Turn 3 should hopefully allow you to drop all your early game cards and follow up with a Turn 4 Sandman. This locks out your opponent completely, and you are then able to play your board-wide buffs such as Blue Marvel, Ka-Zar, and Spectrum and proceed to win the game.
