Developer Update for the Week of February 22, 2023: Thanos New Animation and Mid-Season Patch Edition!

Hello all! Welcome back to this week’s breakdown of what’s happening over on the Marvel Snap official Discord! This week’s edition comes after the new patch went live! Make sure to check out the patch notes if you haven’t yet. The latest Series Drop also went live during this update, so make sure to check out what cards are effected! You can find the complete guide to the new patch below:

In this edition, we get answers to the improved card acquisition system, will old variants ever get upgraded to Mythic variants, will there be another Nian Challenge, will more music be added, and is that new Thanos (Infinity Stone) visual the new VFX we’ve been waiting on! Answers and questions may be slightly rephrased for more clarity and ease of reading.

This Week’s Questions

Q: Do we have an estimate for when an improvement to the card acquisition will take place?
A: Stephen “We have changes in development right now but will be a month or two before they are live”

Stephen “Making new card releases more exciting and something most players can engage with is important and a high priority for us to improve. We have some pretty major changes lined up for the next couple of patches that we hope make it much better“

Q: Will any current variants ever be upgraded to the upcoming mythic variant (with unique SFX)?
A: Stephen “Doubtful that any current variants would get upgraded to mythic”

Q: Will Kang be permanent in Series 5 as another ‘big bad’?
A: Stephen ” We are still discussing this. Will share when a decision is made!”

Q: Will there ever be more emotes or an emote shop?
A: Stephen “It’s on the roadmap”

Q: Is Aero on the watchlist?
A: Stephen “👀”

Q: Will there be new music added to the game at some point?
A: Stephen “Absolutely. We hope to get to a place where we can have a new banger each season”

Q: Will there be an event like Nian challenge this season?
A: Stephen “We have paused these for now. We felt like they were not hitting the quality bar we hold ourselves to while distracting us from bigger features”

Q: Why does The Collector not get buffed by Mindscape?
A: Stephen “It’s a bug. I’ll check in on it next week.”

Q: How long do you think you will be able to keep releasing cards at the current pace?
A: Stephen “We plan to keep updating the game for the next 10+ years. We want Marvel Snap to be the biggest CCG in the world”

Q: What was the change in the patch to make booster targeting easier?
A: Stephen “Boosters from matches are now 2x more likely to target cards that need more boosters to be upgraded. We feel it enables you to upgrade cards you care about more frequently. Infinite cards are treated like Ultra and get extra focus up to 50 owned boosters. It takes the current upgrade level into account. This change is not booster magnets.

Q: When will purchase confirmation be added to the shop?
A: Stephen “It’s coming in a future update”

Q: Why are ‘Your Opponent Retreated’ and ‘Victory’ switched now?
A: Stephen “Bug”

Q: Are series 4 and 5 combined now in the token shop? So if I skipped Thanos, I now need to wait until I see all 4 and 5 to see him in rotation again?
A: Stephen “Yes that’s correct. Series 4 and 5 rotation is now combined”

Q: Is this new version of Thanos Animation the final version?
A: Stephen “Not even close. More coming soon”

Q: How do changes to the schedule of the Marvel films affect the Snap schedule?
A: Nicki Broderick “We’re already planning some amazing seasons for Marvel Snap through 2024! This gives us a lot of flexibility to adjust our season content and timing if there are delays or updates to Marvel’s schedule. We try to aim for a good mixture of seasons that match/pair with some of the Marvel schedule, as well as themes that stand alone and help tell more of the stories from across the multiverse.”

Q: If I buy a bundle with a variant for a card I don’t have the base card for, can I see variants for that card in the shop still?
A: Stephen “You should be able to see other variants in the shop and get variants from mystery crates”

Q: Is there an in app way to see a card’s series?
A: Daniela “This is something we’re working on!”
