Developer Update for the Week of December 7, 2022: New Season Edition

Hello all! Welcome back to this week’s breakdown of what’s happening over on the Marvel Snap official Discord! Marvel Snap Development Roadmap – Future Updates

This week’s edition comes right after the start of the new season The Power Cosmic! Answers to questions will be prefaced with the developer who said it. Answers and questions may be slightly rephrased for more clarity and ease of reading.

This Week’s Questions

Q: Do You guys have any plans for some Wolverine buffs in the future?

A: Ben Brode “This is Stephen’s biggest wishlist item I think! I’ll just say we are aware of the Wolverine fans and if he’s not quite good enough we will eventually likely buff him. Personally, I am interested to see how he preforms with Galactus.”

Q: I have 1 card in series 3 left and the shop just keeps refreshing the same card. Is this intended?

A: Ben Brode ” Yeah this experience sucks – we are planning on making this work differently”

Q: What is the best way to report a bug?

A: Ben Brode ” In the setting there is a ‘report a bug’ button. If you use that, it sends us really useful logs, including about the last game you played. That’s the best way because it makes it really easy for us to debug. Thank you!!”

Q: Can you explain the pity timer for series 4 cards?

A: Ben Brode “It’s not quite correct to call it a pity timer. There are batches of 40 boxes and 1 guaranteed series 4 card is shuffled into each set of 40. If you get your guaranteed card at the start of one box, it is possible you wouldn’t see another series 4 card until the end of set 2, or a max of 78 caches opened. This is super super rare though. If you did that though, your next card should come sooner because bad luck is rewarded with future good luck.”

Q: I keep seeing the same of some cards in the token shop, but it never shows other cards. What is the frequency of seeing series 5 over 4?

A: Ben Brode “Series 5 shows up about half as often as series 4 (but there are less cards in it so they’re similar overall appearance rate. We have some work to do on the system to improve it.”

Q: When are friend battles coming?

A: Ben Brode “We are working on this; one of oud biggest focuses as a team right now. Not sure about ETA, but possible it will be next month.”

Q: Will variants like the current featured apocalypse be exclusive to the bundle?

A: Ben Brode “No current plans to offer this variant somewhere else”

Q: Are series 5 cards in batches if 400?

A: Ben Brode “Series 5 is purely random, 1/400”

Q: Will there ever be a bundle with variants in series 3? And what happens if I get that bundle without owning the base card?

A: Stephen “Yes we will. If you purchase that bundle, you can immediately use the variant as a playable card. You can later get the base card from caches.”

Q: What is the worst card in the game?

A: Ben Brode “Agatha Harkness lol”

Q: How big will series 3 get?

A: Ben Brode “Series 3 will continue to grow, but we can also speed up or add other methods to get older cards if we need to boost new players at some point.”

Q: Will priority of boosters be changed?

A: Ben Brode “I will say that I don’t think we’re feeling amazing about how this system is working and are looking forward to adding more agency. It’s something we are currently discussing.”

Q: What is the philosophy behind buffing cards?

A: Ben Brode “We are happy to buff cards! Just haven’t done it since launch yet. We are growing the card design team and are looking forward to what that will enable us to do in the future.”

Q: What are the team’s thoughts on what qualifies a hero to get multiple cards? For example Peter Parker and Miles being different, but Ghost Rider having a variant of Robbie Reyes. Would Mr. Knight qualify as a new card or variant?

A: Ben Brode “Generally one name = one card. Every character who had that name will be a variant. When a character becomes VERY well known own (usually because they’ve been in the movies!) It sometimes feels weird to us that they’d ‘just’ be a variant and so sometimes we would make them into a new card.”

Q: Is Quinjet + Jane Foster working as intended with Infinity Stones?

A: Ben Brode “Yeah, this is a but weird. We were talking today about how to adress this. Will get back soon.”

Q: Do investment companies control the direction of Snap?

A: Stephen “All game design and development decisions are made by Second Dinner. My team in partnership with many other members of Second dinner designed the progression and monetization systems. Our primary goal is to make Marvel Snap the most accessible card battles that everyone wants to play for 10+ years”
