Some synergistic decks have resurfaced this week, providing a real counterpower to decks powered by Mister Fantastic First Steps. Silver Surfer and Good Cards remain fantastic picks, but they need to pack the appropriate disruption to be able to match the point development of Bounce Move, Bullseye, and Double Up.
In this context, The Thing First Steps doesn’t make too much sense. Unless you play the card onto a location with three cards ready to destroy on Turn 5, you won’t get much value out of the card. In that role, something like Red Guardian seems to be more reliable.
This is unfortunate for the new 5-Cost, which has gotten cut from most decks’ starting line up as a result. It is the way to play Marvel Snap, trying to be as flexible as possible until the last turn, that has caused this.
Performance wise, both cards might look disappointing—not enough for the missions to be a big challenge, nor to question how good Mister Fantastic First Steps has been all season long. However, you might start to see some switches in the meta, and The Thing First Steps seems to be paying for it.
| Mission | # | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Play 5-Cost Cards | 15 | 150 Credits |
| Win with The Thing First Steps starting in your Deck | 4 | 300 Collector’s Tokens |
| Win with Mister Fantastic First Steps starting in your Deck | 8 | 150 Gold |
The Thing First Steps Performance

Although it was included in some of the top tier archetypes in the game, The Thing First Steps has yet to be part of the starting twelve cards of an archetype. Indeed, while the 5-Cost makes sense to run in Fantasticar, KaZoo, and even Good Cards, these decks have a better performing build that doesn’t include The Thing First Steps.
It seems like the card is strong enough to be a consideration, but it lacks a bit of power and flexibility to become a staple at the moment.

Mister Fantastic First Steps Performance

The meta is slowly drifting towards more synergistic decks that are able to go over the points ceiling of most flexible builds with Mister Fantastic First Steps. Then, even though Silver Surfer and Good Cards remain top tier contenders, decks like Bounce Move, Bullseye, and Double Up are able to challenge them.
This doesn’t have much to do with the Season Pass card really, but the disruptive cards played alongside him in those decks. At the moment, the Fenris Wolf, Gladiator, Shang-Chi, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead list is very popular. In that context, decks that intend to grow the power of their cards don’t give Fenris Wolf anything huge to re-summon if the card is destroyed early in the game (which is before it could grow in power).
On the other hand, if Gladiator doesn’t hit a key card, those decks can lose priority, develop a ton of points on Turn 6, and remain safe from Shang-Chi.
Mister Fantastic First Steps is a great card, but it doesn’t really tip the scales on these kinds of interactions. You just play it on Turn 2 to power up your hand.

Bonus Challenge Decks
Mister Fantastic First Steps is part of all the top performers that have The Thing First Steps included, so I’ll keep the tradition of focusing on the new card when it comes to decks to play. The Season Pass card will just come along for the ride regardless of the strategy you decide to run.
If you skipped The Thing First Steps and are looking to complete the Mister Fantastic First Steps missions without playing Surfer or Good Cards, here are three strong decks with unique play styles in this meta.
