Clea & Merlin Decks: Weekly Performance Review & Bonus Challenge Guide

Curious how the latest release has fared? Looking for ideas to complete the weekend missions? You've come to the right place!

Clea can be played in the Good Cards deck core alongside Zabu, Surge, Gwenpool, Galacta and Kahhori. Just that synergy is enough to know the card will be playable, and likely post strong numbers. Unfortunately, the card’s performance is completely different whenever Clea isn’t around the likes of Surge and Merlin. Then, the power level of the new addition might be still up in the air, while her pairing with the best cards in the game carried her early on.

Merlin was struggling a bit over the past two weeks, but picked up the slack to close the season. In the higher ranks, the Season Pass is doing great, becoming a new foundation, alongside Werewolf By Night and Hawkeye Kate Bishop, of the Good Cards archetype. Contrary to Clea, Merlin manages to post solid numbers within other archetypes as well. Iron Hand, Galactus, Small Good Cards or Kazoo, they all include the season pass card in their top performing build.

Clea Performance

All Ranks
Infinite Ranks

Clea has yet to make a big impact in Marvel Snap. The card is more popular in the Infinite Ranks compared to the global ladder, but that is also where it is posting its worse results. At the moment, there is one great deck with the new 1-cost: Good Cards. However, there are also quite a few average performers. As always, it is hard to assess the real power of a card when you have Zabu, Surge and Merlin in the same deck, as these three would make a rock look like a solid play.

Numbers wise, Clea is a bit weird. As a build-around type of card, it is only logic to see Clea raise its deck’s win rate when she hits the board. Plus, 2% is quite impactful, even if 50% isn’t that good of a performance. The confusion comes when we cross that information with the terrible Cube Rate on play, plummeting to a negative number, while the Cube Rate on Draw is solid.

You win more games if you play the card, but will lose all your Cubes? Something is off here.

Merlin Performance

All Ranks
Infinite Ranks

Merlin improved this week, at least if we look at the infinite ranks. There, the card remains one of the most popular in the game, with both metrics in the green. In the global ladder, the card looks absolutely terrible, likely due to flexible decks not being as good in those ranks.

Deck wise, Merlin is part of a large variety of archetypes, with at least four of them deserving to be in our next Tier List. After losing some momentum over the past two weeks, the season pass card should close the season on a high note.

Post-Release Score:

Rating: 8 out of 10.

Bonus Challenge Decks

Merlin and Clea join forces in one of the top performing decks this week, presenting us with an obvious option to knock all missions at once.

That deck happens to be Good Cards, so we have plenty of ways to build around the typical top tier cards in the game.

Kazoo is another deck using both cards. The numbers aren’t as good as the deck above, but you might prefer that play style.

To be fair, All of Clea’s best performing decks include Surge, Merlin or both so far. As such, I had to do a little digging to find decks with a different play style we could use to complete the new card’s missions.

If you have Surge, you can slot it in those decks instead of whatever 2-cost they might be using.

When it comes to Merlin, the card can be played in a ton of decks at the moment, so let your imagination run wild. Here are some of my favorite amongst top performing decks with the Season Pass:
