Marvel Snap has been playtesting a new competitive event game mode called Leagues for a month now in selected regions, before going live to the rest of the world. The most prominent feedback from players was that it promoted pay to win as players could purchase Boosts to increase their standings on the leaderboard – which is now being removed. There will also be new free and paid Leagues (with better rewards).

In addition, it appears Marvel Snap is making some moves as they look to announce some exciting stuff at IGN Live 2024! We can’t wait to see what it involves.

Recently, we conducted a test on a new feature called Leagues. This limited-time event matches players into groups of thirty, competing on a short-term leaderboard for prizes. We want to update you on our future plans for this feature, the insights we gained from the test, and the reasons behind the test’s design.
First of all, thank you for all your feedback about Leagues – especially our players in Ireland who played the test event. We’re making some core changes to the feature before it’s released to the rest of the world. The upcoming version of Leagues will no longer include purchased Boosts. Instead, when a League begins, you’ll have the option to join a Standard League for free or buy into a Premium League, which offers more rewards. Leagues will still focus on groups of 30 similar players, earning and losing points based on wins and cubes gained over a 48 or 72-hour period.
The most prominent feedback we received was that the feature felt “pay to win.” We weren’t surprised by this reaction. Part of feature testing is validating assumptions and understanding the difference between what people say and what they do, or what we think and what we know. Sometimes, this involves testing a negative hypothesis—like this one—to verify it, gauge the impact, and settle internal debates.
Leagues are part of our broader goal this year to ensure MARVEL SNAP is filled with exciting events and special occasions beyond our normal seasons. We aim to offer different ways to play and various rewards for playing. Your feedback is crucial in shaping these features, and we couldn’t do it without your continued support.
