The Space Throne Hot Location Guide: Strategy, Best Cards and Decks

This week's Marvel Snap Hot Location is The Space Throne: Only one card can be here for each player. This location will show up 60% more frequently in games for the next 24 hours. Here are some decks to get you started for all players!

The Hot Location for the next 24 hours is The Space Throne: Only one card can be here for each player. Hot Locations happen every week, starting on Sunday at 3 AM GMT. The chosen location has a 60% increased chance of appearing during games. Players who strategically build around the location or counter the decks that do so can have an advantage over their opponents! So what will you play?

Strategy and General Tips

This one is a location that adds a lot of tension to games. It changes the rules of the game, as we go from twelve slots on board to only nine. For some decks, it can be more restrictive than locations like, for example, Sanctum Sanctorum because you cannot sneak extra cards in; the location locks down at one card.

My initial thought process was: How do you put as much power as possible into the location? This can be achieved by playing large cards such as Destroyer or Hulk on turn six and over power the location. This strategy is susceptible to Shang-Chi, though, so if you do this with priority, you can be punished hard.

Another option to maximize power on the location is the “limited lane” strategy. Klaw, Mister Fantastic, and Omega Red can push more power onto the location while keeping it empty for Warpath or locked down with Professor X.

Without as many cards required to abuse the location, the lower-Collection-Level games these approaches are valid and can be built into strong existing strategies.

Now for the bad news: When you’re climbing into a more complete collection, the most effective decks are likely to be the ones that can threaten to steal the lane entirely as soon as turn three. Green Goblin, Debrii, and Polaris can all help achieve this. This changes the game for the final three turns into a two-lane game, and these decks can be built to counter your opponent on one of these lanes to win comfortably. Another issue lies in a Series 5 card that would love if you couldn’t play a card on a lane because a Green Goblin is stuck there: Galactus.

Countering these types of decks is generally done by playing proactive cards to overpower them. This happens often during the normal course of Marvel Snap, but this location gives a significant boost to Lockation strategies. Using an Ongoing package that can carry some of these Lockation cards as well as have a positive strategy may be the best way to oppose them.

Scarlet Witch and Storm are excellent inclusions in a lot of decks and can help counter the impact of the Hot Location, but one idea you may not have considered is Nightcrawler. Playing Nightcrawler into the location early allows you to block the opponent’s sneaky plays and still play your big card their later on.

In Series 1, interaction with the location is limited, but one way to push yourself over the edge is using cards like Mister Fantastic and Klaw; they can add more power to the single card sitting in the location. In this deck, we want to place Namor on The Space Throne as it can grow well past other Series 1 cards. The rest of the deck is just the good Ongoing deck from Series 1.

In Series 2, we can continue the Ongoing deck idea and swap in Warpath and other good Ongoing cards as we pick them up. Or, we can do something completely different. This deck has several control tools to help you win The Space Throne as well as the other lanes.

Hobgoblin is only for The Space Throne if you’re 100% confident, but the rest of the plan is based around winning the other two lanes while carrying cards that can block opposing junk such as Nightcrawler.

This first list carries the Hazmat and Luke Cage combo and plays towards maximizing it. We can use Debrii and Green Goblin to lock Space Throne and later debuff with Hazmat. Luke Cage keeps our Rock‘s power higher than our opponents’ so we can win The Space Throne.

With Wong decks, the important part is having a solid backup plan, and this deck accomplishes that with Wong into Ironheart (which can both be played on turn six with Zabu on board).

This list is a take on the classic Destroyer lists, aimed at utilizing Daredevil to his full potential. Green Goblin and Polaris are there to take an early Space Throne, Professor X and Spider-Man for turn five lockdowns, and Destroyer to win a second lane if needed. The supporting cards in the deck focus on high tempo plays to set up for the turn five and six finish.

If you hit a Goblin into The Space Throne and play Galactus on any turn after, you win the game. That is the entire premise of this deck. The rest of deck has two ways to win with Galactus: playing a -16 power Hobgoblin into Galactus, and playing Galactus ASAP followed by Shang-Chi and/or Death.

After Credits

This variant of the Hazmat deck may be better into opposing Junk decks, so I’m including it as the After Credits deck this week. This one utilizes Nightcrawler and Polaris. Nightcrawler can sit in a spot you need to free later from as early as turn one. Polaris can abuse opposing cheap cards and help block locations. This, unfortunately, comes at the expense of being able to set up a backup Ironheart combo.

If we see a fiesta of decks aiming to abuse The Space Throne, including Nightcrawler to block the location (and Polaris to pull our opponent’s Nightcrawler out) is excellent tech that most decks can afford.
