Welcome back to our new weekly series Cache-ing In! Each week, we break down what cards will be available in the new Spotlight Caches, as well as the Spotlight Variants! The goal is to help you determine if you should “Cache in” for the content, or hoard for a better week.
Spotlight Cache Week of February 27, 2024
This week, the featured cards will be the new Series 5 card Proxima Midnight, as well as the return of
Proxima Midnight

Headlining the final new card of the Black Order Season is Proxima Midnight! She is a 4-Cost, 7-Power card with the ability “When this is discarded, jumps to your lowest-Power location. (that isn’t full)”.
This is sort of like Black Cat, but she doesn’t require a card to bring her back to get value. The biggest disadvantage of the card is that it will always land on your lowest power location. This can be advantageous though, in a match with Sanctum Sanctorum, Death's Domain, or other restrictive locations.
With a stat line of [4/7], it isn’t horrible to play her for 4 Energy if you need to. Her true value comes from being discarded though, so you only want her in Discard decks. One such deck is this aggressive discard deck that aims to ruin your opponent’s day. Using Moon Knight, Silver Samurai, and Black Bolt, you can miss with your opponent’s ability to play their cards. Your discard targets help you to add power to your board for free, or power up your Apocalypse. Instead of Dracula, you can play Strong Guy since you will often end up with an empty hand with your discards jumping to the board for you.
To team up Proxima Midnight with her husband Corvus Glaive, check out this Hela deck! Your goals here are simple: Discard big stuff and bring them back with Hela, Ghost Rider, or use the Ebony Blade. If you don’t find those cards, use your extra Energy from Corvus Glaive to ramp into your big cards. Proxima Midnight acts simply as an extra discard target that dodges the need for a revival.
Overall, Proxima Midnight looks like a fun discard tool. Not too strong, but not weak either. She doesn’t look like a must have card, but rather a fun substitute for other discard targets depending on your collection and what goals your deck has.
MODOK
The master of discarding,
Your biggest weakness is to Alioth. With Magik, Crystal, Jubilee, and Iron Lad, you can almost guarantee yourself to draw or play every card in your deck each match. The Living Tribunal aims to balance out your power since Hela can place cards in unideal locations.
Daken
Closing out this cache is another Discard card, Daken! While he is never seen in Destroy decks (despite his text allowing destruction of the Muramasa Shard), he does see play in Discard decks! Specifically, he sees play in Apocalypse decks with

While the deck has suffered a loss since America Chavez was reworked, it still functions well and can compete in the meta.
Spotlight Variants
If you already own the cards the Spotlight Cache offers, one of these variants will take it’s place! If you own none of the cards, the variants will appear after you open all four caches. Spotlight variants are time exclusive to their release week, with no estimated time on when they will be available again. So, if any of these Spotlight variants feel like a must have for you, make sure to Cache In if you have enough caches saved to guarantee the pull.
The widely popular In-Hyuk Lee continues his month of Spotlight features with this Proxima Midnight variant!
This Munching
Closing the final Spotlight variant of the month is this Fantasy Daken variant by ADIA, who is a frequent Spotlight Cache variant artist.
Should I Cache In?
This week, the cache is a bit lower in value with only 1 card from Series 5 and 2 from Series 4.
My recommendation this week is to hoard your caches. Proxima Midnight looks like a decent, fun card, but looks more like a substitute than a gamechanger.
Overall, this week just simply doesn’t have enough value in it to recommend 4 caches on, especially with an exciting batch of new cards coming up.
Wrap Up
