Since the release of Marvel Snap, the community has been aware that most of the Pixel variants were referenced from previous Marvel work, such as toys, games, comic book covers, and more. It is being brought to light again after artist Jason Kiantoro discovered their fanart for M'Baku done in 2018 was referenced in its Pixel variant.

According to Second Dinner, they are “looking into it“, with a few other artists used in Marvel Snap variants have had their work substituted or removed due to issues, although this is a different topic in terms of legality or morality.
What Happened to Pixel Variants?

Commissioned specifically for Marvel Snap, all the initial Pixel variants were created by G-Angle, a Japanese illustration studio which are no longer being made for new cards since over 2 years ago. They also did the first batch of Chibi variants before Rian Gonzales took over for the newer cards (who was also accused of tracing art from another artist).
These Pixel variants have generally been met with negative reviews from the community, and more so used in a jokingly manner. However, some are fan favorites, such as Hellcow and M.O.D.O.K. that have especially gone to more humorous extremes and even have an Album dedicated to them.
What makes this more interesting, the existing Marvel Snap artist InHyuk Lee, also had his work referenced from a Sentry art drawn 9 years ago.
