Week of September 3, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Silver Sable | 5 | InHyuk Lee |
| Mockingbird | 5 | Jelena Djurdjevic |
| U.S. Agent | 5 | Skan |
Welcome to a brand new season of Marvel Snap! This season’s theme is all about the Spider-Verse, so let’s take a look at our first new card: While not a Spider, Silver Sable is a crazy good 1-Cost card. As a 1-Cost, she provides you with 3-Power while subtracting 2 Power from your opponent’s card. If they play it, that makes her a [1/5] with basically no drawback! Not only will she be good in Ajax or Evolved Abomination lists, but she looks like a generically good 1-Cost that any deck could use! Her biggest threats are Killmonger and Shadow King though, so she isn’t difficult to counter.
Backing her up is the return of U.S. Agent and Mockingbird! I don’t have to say much here, we know these are both good cards (since U.S. Agent got a buff after his release). This is am incredibly strong lineup to kick off the season!
Week of September 10, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Madame Web | 5 | InHyuk Lee |
| Silk | 4 | Eduardo Mello |
| Alioth | 5 | Michal Ivan |
Webbing her way into this week’s cache, we get Madame Web! She was nerfed from a datamined [2/3] to a [2/1], but this card still has potential. She gives move cards a new tool to constantly move cards, and she curves perfectly into Hercules. She could also work in some Thena + Angela decks, but those already have plenty of cards that move themselves. She could allow those decks to experiment with replacing those move cards with stronger options that Madame Web can move out. Her true strength is unclear, but she definitely is an interesting card to cook with.
What’s that in the distance? Is that… a fart cloud? It is! Alioth returns this week, as well as Silk! Alioth has been a roller coaster of a card since release. He now sits in a comfortable spot in the meta without being too oppressive. Silk, on the other hand, has yet to make a comeback from her meta days. Nothing changed with her card, but the decks she was used in simply aren’t as viable now.
Week of September 17, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Arana | 5 | InHyuk Lee |
| Ms. Marvel | 5 | Eduard Petrovich |
| Sage | 5 | Kai Lun Qu |
Swinging in as our 3rd new card, we get Araña! She is the first Spotlight card we get with the new keyword “Activate”. Her ability allows new move options for cards like Human Torch and Multiple Man. I think she will see the most play in combo decks. She sets up for a perfect Human Torch combo, or possibly combos where you need a card to activate in one location, but land in a different location. For example: If you use Shuri as set up, and Black Panther gets a big Power buff, it’s a 50/50 if Nimrod will hit your BP. Araña let’s you sequence a movement after his buff, allowing you to guarantee a hit with Arnim Zola (plus some extra Power!) Simply put, it’s another exciting card to cook with!
Speaking if cooks, if you want some fun cards to use, Ms. Marvel and Sage return this week! Ms. Marvel used to be a top meta contender, but has since fallen out of favor. She is still a good card with a great value as a [4/14], but many decks simply aren’t interested in the type of gameplay she requires. Sage, however, has been quickly rising up as a strong 3-Cost option. With the help of Ravonna Renslayer, this card can be a very sneaky Power dump on the final turns of a match, especially with the help of Wong.
Week of September 24, 2024
| Card | Series | Variant |
|---|---|---|
| Scarlet Spider | 5 | InHyuk Lee |
| Skaar | 5 | Ron Garney |
| White Widow | 5 | Miguel Mercado |
Crawling in as our last card of the week, we get Scarlet Spider! As our final new Activate card of the season, this ability strikes me as a hybrid of Mister Sinister and Nimrod. Since you can time his ability trigger for the exact moment you need it, this card has a ton of potential. His biggest challenge will be finding a deck that can utilize that ability for more than his basic value. His base stats make him a [4/10], so even without adding extra Power for combo potential, he offers solid stats for his Cost.
To wrap up the season, we are ending strong with White Widow and Skaar! White Widow has been an incredible card since her release. Even after her nerf, she still remains popular and continues to perform well. Skaar has increased in popularity with more 10-Cost cards being usable now (Attuma) and new additions (Mockingbird). These help Skaar to get great value more consistently. As more 10 Power cards release, I could see Skaar growing in popularity with it.
