Marvel Snap Balance OTA Analysis and New Decks to Play – December 4th

Check out the changes brought by the October 30th OTA and stock up on new decks to play !

Table of Contents

To kick off the last season of 2025, Second Dinner decide to go a little harsher on the archetype they failed to nerf previously. Indeed, after Sparky and Storm losing some power did nothing to Move or War Machine Ramp, the developers decided it was time to target the key cards in thos archetypes.
Arguably, I don’t expect this to change that much, as the best Move archetype has been Disruptive move for several weeks now, and Iron Hand is another archetype that proved its dominance recently. As such, I expect these nerfs to impact the popularity of certain archetype, but not the best ones available.

The buffs are more interesting to look at, especially the change to Spider-Man Noir, now a clear support for Iron Man and Gorr. Arguably, that synergy could become reliable enough to make a splash in the metagame. However, with Iron Hand already at the top, we might just swap Mercury for Enchantress or some other card able to handle Ongoing abilities.

Overall, I like this OTA more than the few we had in November. This one targets foundational cards, likely resulting in more impact to their archetypes. It probably won’t shake the metagame to its core with Destroy being the focus of the season and others left unchecked. Yet, there are some changes that entice me to test new ideas, and that’s the entire point of balance updates.

Nerfs

Now a [3/2]

This was inevitable based on how the Arachnid Anarchy season went. As a [3/2], Human Torch will require more assistance to reach numbers able to win a location on its own. It is still able to do so when Sparky or Araña buff it early on. Otherwise, expect an 16 power Human Torch, sometimes 32, rather than the usual 24 or 48 we lost to lately.

Now a [5/9]

War Machine Ramp lost plenty of momentum in the infinite ranks following the previous OTA. However, that same deck was mostly the same in the lower ranks, which prompted another nerf, this time to War Machine.
This completely kills the Storm, War Machine, Legion play-pattern while the now [5/9] will be more difficult to play with Ebony Maw and The Infinaut unless we find some ramp.
Electro into War Machine is now a solid 3-4 at least.

Buffs

Now a [3/4]

Second Dinner calls this a buff, but removing the interaction with Air-Walker to have a way to fetch Morgan Le Fay from our deck is a big deal.
As such, the now [3/4] might be easier to play when you draw it, especially on turn five alongside Carnage. We also should see less of Morgan Le Fay when playing a deck built around her.

Now a [3/5]

The 3-cost has not seen much play in a long time, but I would attribute that to a tough competition among 3-costs rather than Elsa Bloodstone lacking one power. Werewolf By Night, , Shadow King or even Mercury lately, we simply don’t have space available in our deck.

Now a [3/7]

Discard has not been doing great lately, so a bit of help makes sense. However, picking a card that is not a staple in any of the common discard archetypes is a bit weird. At least, that will help newcomers to Marvel Snap get into Discard early on.

Now a [6/12]

It is a buff, but more power to a card we primarily intend to discard doesn’t feel that impactful, except when Ghost Rider brings it back. I would have liked to see an improvement to Helicarrier’s ability, such as more predictability when it comes to the generated cards.

Now a [7/13]

Dormammu needs to be on Arishem or Thanos level based on its status. If it wasn’t for that label failing miserably, Dormammu would be a Big Bad right now.
There are a few synergies with the 7-cost, such as using the Summoning Rituals to move Werewolf By Night, so Dormammu isn’t far off being a potential metagame pick.

Now a [4/4] that reads : On Reveal: Set the top card of your deck’s Power to 8. If your other cards in play cost exactly 8 total, add it here.

I’m both happy and annoyed at this change. Glad because the 4-cost needed some help to feel more rewarding and worth building around. Annoyed because this makes Spider-Man Noir a clear ally to Iron-Man and Gorr.
This buff makes Spider-Man Noir playable for sure, but also more niche.

New Decks

Morgan Le Fay, Dormammu and Spider-Man Noir highlight the most impactful changes of this OTA. Elsa Bloodstone is likely worth testing again, but the card will just be an inclusion in already built decks, such as Flexible Zombies, rather than a piece we deckbuild around.
