Patriot

Archetype pages are updated after each Tier List is made. If a page isn’t up-to-date, it means there was nothing worth mentioning in the last report, either because there was no data about the archetype or it did poorly.

Patriot isn’t as good as the other synergies around Agent Venom, but it was good enough to be worth mentioning this week. Also, this is the best Silver Surfer deck right now, mostly due to its ability to play even though Cosmo is in a lot of decks.

Just like in the Ranked report that came out soon after Agent Venom released, Patriot is still finding a way into the rankings thanks to the new Season Pass card. It is hard to say much about this deck since it is clearly the worst of the three Agent Venom decks on this Tier List. Still, if you enjoy playing Patriot, the synergy is good enough to get you some Conquest tickets for sure.

How to Play

Based around its namesake card, Patriot aims to build a solid amount of points on every lane through global buffs. Most of the time, Patriot will be able to compete on every location and reach 15 to 20 points on each.

While this total might seem lackluster compared to a Discard or Destroy, this allows Patriot to keep its opponent in the dark regarding the exact spread of points to expect. Indeed, a lot of explosive archetypes wait for the last turn to commit their points in order to gain information based on what their opponent does. Against Patriot, you know every lane will be a fight.

While you don’t have much flexibility with your space (you will often use all twelve spaces available with a Patriot deck), a great player will be able to count how many points they should be able to develop ahead of time, and then construct their turns to make it difficult for the opponent to read the situation.

Plus, since you have points on every lane, you will typically hold priority with a Patriot deck, which opens the way for Alioth, Cosmo, or other such cards to potentially ruin your opponent’s game plan. Finally, since Mockingbird joined the game, Patriot was given a great way to keep some points in hand until the very last minute. This provides some more flexibility regarding how you spread your points, and it has been instrumental in Patriot coming back in the meta during the Avengers vs. X-Men season.

Archetype Evolution Over Time

November 4th Update

  • Patriot exists thanks to Agent Venom, but it is a big step below the other archetypes that build around the Season Pass card.

October 5th Update

  • Patriot found a new list with Agent Venom, but it isn’t on par with the other lists using the Season Pass card. Still, this deck is good enough if you specifically want to play Patriot.

September 30th Update

  • Patriot has been very quiet for most of the season, but it managed to post a decent performance towards the end. The current meta isn’t ideal for the deck, though, so it is probably best to consider it a “climb to Infinite” kind of build.

September 7th Update

  • The first week of the season is typically when Patriot is at its best, especially in a meta where specific counter cards are not popular at all. The archetype is fairly easy to play and can fool bots like no other, which is the perfect combination to grind back to Infinite over long periods of time.
