Ranking the 10 Datamined Cards for February and March 2024

Our guide to all the upcoming Marvel Snap cards for the February and March 2024 Seasons, and their potential decks!

With Tuesday’s patch comes new datamined cards to Marvel Snap! While the Black Order was already datamined in December, not only were two cards adjusted, but we also get a full look at the new Avengers vs. X-Men Season. The cards are completely insane (as they are now), so let’s take a look at them, along with a deck for each.

Always keep in mind these cards are subject to change before they are released!

10. Cannonball

  • Release Date: March 20, 2024
  • Series: 5

Cannonball is my favorite comic book character appearing in these Spotlight Caches by far, but he’s just not great as a card. [5/8] is a great stat line, but one that fights for space with Vision, Aero, Legion, Gamora, Black Bolt, and Spider-Woman. For Cannonball to see play over those heavy hitters, his effect needs to be great…. and, well, it isn’t.

Have you seen Stegron lately? He’s a good card – wins an occasional game, but gets crowded out by other powerful [4/6] cards. Cannonball‘s effect is basically Stegron‘s. Yes, he puts a Rock where the card moved from, giving the opponent one less space, and that’s not nothing, but it’s also rarely backbreaking.

The destroy clause seems great until you realize how unlikely it is that the opponent has completely filled every other location, especially by turn 5. You can play this on turn 6, but then the rock is utterly wasted. This is just a miss.

That’s the bad news. The good news? Cannonball is the only miss of the next two months.

9. Proxima Midnight

  • Release Date: February 28, 2024
  • Series: 5

Proxima Midnight is great, but probably a little less busted than she immediately appears. She’s essentially a [0/6] in discard, but discard already has a [0/4] in Wolverine. 2 extra free stats are nothing to sneeze at, and you can run both for a free [0/10], and… I just talked myself into it. 10 free power in most games is going to be an absolute ton of power, especially when combined with stuff like Dracula, free Swarms, Morbius, and the upcoming Miek.

Discard has fallen behind in terms of top-tier power basically forever. With all these cards, it’s hard to know if that will still be the case, but it has a chance to be a top-tier deck. The only issue is that Discard seems like a fundamentally fair card… and I’m not sure the rest of these cards will be.

8. Cull Obsidian

  • Release Date: February 14, 2024
  • Series: 4

Cull Obsidian is one of the cards that was changed with this patch. It went from a [4/10] that couldn’t be destroyed and had to be played where you had an Infinity Stone to a [4/9] that has to be played where you have a 1-cost card. The latter text is more inclusive but less powerful. Cannot be Destroyed is great text for not just avoiding Shang-Chi, but playing on locations like Death's Domain is a real and powerful upside, particularly in the world of new Quake, though that’s obviously harder with the 1-cost restriction (hello to both Caiera and playing blind early). Also great for the previous version is protection from Shang-Chi. Yes, the new version is only 9-power, but the numerous buffs available in the game still but the newer version of Cull at risk.

All of which is to say, the card has gotten worse in the recent datamine, but it’s still really, really strong, and, to compensate for its lesser power, it was moved to Series 4. [4/9] cards are rare, especially without a significant, debilitating downside. Simply playing him in a Thanos deck is a ton of power, and that’s a cost spot Thanos is usually missing in the deck. Better still, so long as Blob exists, he’s a great body even when he isn’t drawn.

Is he better than Proxima Midnight? Probably not in a vacuum, but at least as of right now, we know Cull Obsidian fits into a top-tier deck while Proxima Midnight needs to take a deck that’s underperforming to the top. We know the former and cannot be sure of the latter, so Cull wins.

7. Mockingbird

  • Release Date: March 13, 2024
  • Series: 5

Mockingbird is going to be so much better than people think. She keeps being evaluated through the lens of getting her to zero – she’s really unlikely to be that, but what about getting her to 4? Now she’s Cull Obsidian. 3? A better Gladiator.

And how hard is that to accomplish? A couple of Infinity Stones do the job. So does getting a random card on your side – a Rock, a goblin, etc. One reduction makes this a well-above-rate card. Two or more make it OP. It’s got an easy and obvious home in Thanos and Loki, but any deck running Debrii or Maria Hill or the Hood can make this a viable and powerful play.

6. War Machine

  • Release Date: March 27, 2024
  • Series: 5

Do you like Jeff the Baby Land Shark? Do you think he’s powerful. I know you do. Me, too. War Machine says for one turn everything is Jeff. That’s wild. I don’t really have much to add, except that this probably finally kills Lockdown. In a world where War Machine is in many decks, Professor X and Storm lose an absolute ton of value, as those lanes can never be counted as safe.

Unreachable locations are also likely no longer a Snap, as War Machine changes the math of Marvel Snap. This and Iron Lad are now the very best of the 4-cost cards that go in everything.

5. Corvus Glaive

  • Release Date: February 21, 2024
  • Series: 5

Corvus Glaive is +1 Energy every turn. If Electro is 3-2, this as a 3-4 seems kind of busted. It comes with no other drawback other than discarding two, and that drawback seems easy enough to counterbalance with the aforementioned Wolverine, Proxima Midnight, and Swarm. That one extra energy is great everywhere, and this is clearly good in Discard decks, whether Hela or Apocalypse-centered.

There is a chance, though, that Corvus shoots up to the top of this list. If the discard package at the top of the page with its 10-16 free power and+1 energy is consistent and can be combined with a Good Stuff package. My intuition suggests that is very likely, and if so, look out.

4. Pixie

  • Release Date: March 6, 2024
  • Series: 5

As a [1/3], Pixie seems extremely dangerous. She shuffles the prices of cards – assuming that means that she just takes the cost of cards in your deck and randomizes which card is which cost, that’s insanely strong. If she just takes every card in the deck and shuffles its cost at random… that’s still crazy strong.

Let’s start with the first case – run a bunch of 1s and 0s, for 1s, think Thanos, for 0s, think Thors in Lockjaw. Well, you can then also run a bunch of 6-cost cards. As you draw them for 1 or 0, you get way ahead. Even cards like Crystal are suddenly amazing, as the more cards you see, the more likely you are to end up with a 1 or 0-cost Blob or The Infinaut or whatever.

This is less busted if it shuffles the cost of cards randomly, but still great. You can run a decent curve early, then go all big. Again, Crystal could be here. As soon as you see Pixie, you can assume if there are expensive cards in your deck, well, their costs can only go one way. You completely break the energy curve.

This is Mister Negative, but good since it’s on a [1/3] body!

3. Black Swan

  • Release Date: February 7, 2024
  • Series: Premium Season Pass

February’s Season Pass card is an absolute banger. Perhaps you noticed, but every time cards cost zero, the game breaks. Loki, Quinjet, Beast – all completely broken at various points. Zero cost cards are inherently extremely powerful and are made extremely carefully. Black Swan turns your 1s into zeros on demand.

This has two to three completely bonkers homes. As with seemingly everything, Thanos loves making Stones cost zero, especially in Lockjaw builds, the type that’s currently dominating the meta.

More excitingly though, Hit Monkey and/or Werewolf By Night decks should be utterly absurd with Black Swan. Hit Monkey wants more cards to be played and Swan allows you to essentially fill your board the turn after it’s played. [0/18] worth of Demons doesn’t seem far-fetched and that alone is plus 6 on the monkey.

Werewolf By Night works a little differently, but Werewolf on 3 (with Zabu) or 4 into a Swan will immediately move the Wolf. From there, it’s almost trivial to get Werewolf to a 4-18 or so in power while also beefing up your board.

With either Werewolf or Hit Monkey, Bishop should also be able to become an extraordinarily powerful card. This kind of late-game power is further immune to most answers since it throws priority so effectively – Killmonger, Shadow King, and Shang-Chi just won’t stop it. Unless a deck has Mobius M. Mobius or Alioth, then, Black Swan is utterly backbreaking.

2. Hope Summers

  • Release Date: March 6, 2024
  • Series: Premium Season Pass

Hope Summers is the March Season Pass card and what a way to celebrate my son’s birthday and my wedding anniversary. This is going to immediately be the best energy cheat in Marvel Snap with her best friend Kitty Pryde.

Kitty means that Hope is essentially plus 1 power from turn 4 on and can be combined with the aforementioned Black Swan to disgusting effect. Moreover, playing more than one card on Hope a turn should lead to absolutely explosive amounts of energy, and move cards like Jeff, Spider-Man, Vision, and Nightcrawler should allow for that too. It’s unknown if she’ll trigger with Beast right now, but if she does, she’s even more insanely broken.

Still, Kitty is all that’s needed for abuse of ramp here. Welcome back to Silky Smooth!

1. Supergiant

  • Release Date: February 7, 2024
  • Series: 5

They can’t actually release this card, right? It was going to be #1 when it was a [1/2] Series 4 card. It’s still #1 as a [4/5] Series 5 card. If you can use this and get priority on turn 4, you can utterly turn off turn 5 for an opponent. Your turn 6 Alioth is guaranteed to wreck them. That just doesn’t seem fun.

In addition, it counters cards like Leech or Legion, protects your Magik, and so much more. If you want to set up a combo and you have early priority? Well, that combo will go off – preventative measures be damned.

If your opponent doesn’t have Alioth? Throw priority for full protection from tech cards or full abuse of your own. Your opponent can’t get extra energy or make their 1s cost zero to end the game if turn 5 is just off. I’m not sure how this card is anything but completely and utterly absurd.
